Vg30e ideas

Post by Big ALF »

Anyone tried modding the vg30e with a supercharger? seen plenty about it in the us using frontier charger and intake etc.

but what about a sc14 or something of the Toyota esteema or 3lt Toyota charger. would mount up real nice where my ac pump used to be (pos)
and I have heard the vg's respond very well to a little umpf in the intake department. and also heard that the engine itself is very capable of taking up to 10 psi?

any thoughts? its just a dream at this point

Cheers
Brady.

yep to all the above .. thats what Im building at the moment, a VG30e (J30) thats supercharged with a sc14 and mounted where the air con used to be. I have had one of these motors apart and they have a very strong bottom end with a full cradle. The con rods and pistons are more than adicate almost over kill. Im using the front wheel drive motor with auto gear box almost mid mounted and locking the diff. The drive shafts are attached to the the gear box diff driving out to offset toyota diffs. Does that make sense ???
cheers

They say the vg30 bottom end is good for over 550hp stock so no issues there.
The camshaft lets them down very badly. Big gains by putting in a better cam

can't remember if its the vg or ve thats runs internal egr via cam timing. so changing the cams would be the first thing to do.

Interesting, have you done your cams as mentioned? Or just charged and tuned?

Also anyone know where said cams would be available? An a ball park figure? Def after some more umpf, especially in the lower rev ranges

Cheers, have seen those early 300's, good power from them. But as you say, not so much in the lower ranges. Which is what I'm after.
also I'm not that keen on turbos. Being I'm 21, and have finally broken free of the "boy racer" label I got for modifying my car for track days. I'm doing my best to steer clear of turbos and the huge power numbers we started to reach by using them.

More lookin just to open up the power range in the vg for better low rev torque. So better off road ability. Just tinkering:-)

Anyone know where in Auckland is a good place for cams? Or any other vg versions that are interchangeable maby? Cheers

Look up Auckland Cams, or PM me and I'll give you his number. The owner is a mate of mine he belongs to Nor-west club. Nothing like having custom cams by a guy that realises how 4x4's get used :)
