Nissan Mistral help wanted- desperately!!!!
Hi guys. I am on the scrounge for some help and advice here
I have a 95 2.7td lwb nissan mistral
it has 190 k on the clock. its a jap import
i have had the starter motor replaced, alternator and battery recently.
the issues i have are as follows.( i am not a mechanic but i can do stuff as ,long as i have very clear instructions in laymans terms)
Both of the rear windows will not wind up with the electrical motor. the motor runs cos i can hear it. is this an easy fix?
The central locking does not unlock with the key fob, but opens with the key in the drivers door. the passenger door will not unlock with the key but does unlock when the drivers door is unlocked.
The front washer has stopped working. it makes no noise.
It gets hot quite easily, even with just me in it. for examply, going up the auckland motorway north, towards bombay etc it gets hot, above 1/2 way on the temp gauge. if i go over the Kaimais from Hamilton, I have to stop at the lookout point at the top to let it cool down as it almost hits red. I keep the rev limitier button on the dash(if thats what its called) on 'LIMIT', to stop it getting hot.
I bought a manual from ebay but its badly written with no actual pics like a Haynes manual. The cars electrical system is labeled in japanese so i cant even suss out which fuse is what.
Any help would be appreciated. Im in the Eastern Bay of Pleny, if I could ask a favour for somone if they could come by and take a looksee, or me come to you a box maybe in return??
thanks guys.

Re: Nissan Mistral help wanted- desperately!!!!
heya,
I used to have the simmilar problem where the water temp tends to spike, but i did a whole host of things to solve that, but I would recommend checking your water pump, and the hoses.
And secondly if u havent removed the EGR, i highly recommend you to do it, stops it from getting hot exhaust air circulated when your boosting up hills, more load=more exhaust temps=higher EGR temp=high intake temp=loss of power, and its just a vicious cycle if u ask me.
and intercooler helps loads too, bigger exhaust and all, depends what you want to do, but if you want to have a quick fix, i would recommend to check the water pump and hoses.
Peace
Arvin

Re: Nissan Mistral help wanted- desperately!!!!
ah
my bad, so an EGR is Exhaust Gas Recirculation, whereby a certain portion of the exhaust gas is recirculated back into the intake manifold, thus reducing the amount of exhaust gas emmited ( i think ), but if you ask me it seems like a cheap way out instead of actually reducing emissions. but anyway, in layman terms, EGR puts exhaust gas into the intake, and exhaust gas it hot ass, so it just makes everyting else run more hotter, thus the heating and overheating.

hi first things first you mentioned starter /alt and battery ? why did this start your probs or soon after ? if so i would be checking you earth straps there is 3 i think motor to body and battery,it may not be getting hot at all ?just a voltage drop (ie bad earth) playing tricks with the electrics ?
would be the first place i would look

ok thanks. and where is this EGR? is it easy to remove?
Also, since ive had it its got hot.5 years. the electrical/starting /charging system was replaced in November 2011 as it would not retain a charge especaily in cold months. its all good now.

Re: Nissan Mistral help wanted- desperately!!!!
so there will be pipe coming from the back of your engine connecting to the intake manifold, if you felt around under the manifold, you can feel it, it will have a valve connected to it, so u basically want to remove that valve and make some plates to block of the pipe and the inlet of the pipe at he manifold, if you pm me ure email i will forward u some images from another forum member.

Quoted for reference

#1 Rear windows, If you can hear the motors running it is most likely the regulator cables have broken or are slack enough not to be moved by the motors. Or as DA RAM says.
#2 Try the battery in the fob. Passengers door not opening with the key, sounds like the link rod has jumped off inside the door. I just did my terrano during the weekend as both doors wouldn't lock or unlock with the keys

#3 Washer pump is not getting power or it is seized (common) or as DA RAM says.
#4 Cooling. First thing to check would be the thermostat. Common for them not to open enough. I assume the radiator cooling fins are clean. It won't be the viscus fan because you are moving and the fan does f'all when underway.
Logic is your best friend when trouble shooting. Good explanations too

Helps us on the end of a keyboard

Cheers,
I keep looking for the loose nut behind the wheel, but I can't find it!!
Re: Nissan Mistral help wanted- desperately!!!!
getting hot on the mtrway and more so under load is often is caused by blocked up rad cores. what does the coolant look like when was the system last flushed and serviced, also when was thermostat changed last?
if its been overheated that many times could have gasket/ head/ block damage by now. woth getting it checked to save all the heatake of spending money for wrong things.
with ya rear windows why dont ya pop the door cards/trims off carefully once youve removed all the screws and have a look at whats happening in there possibly just a buggered window regulator. if ya look at it long enough while pushing the up and down switch you should be able to work out whats going on or more importantly whats not going on....
whilst ya there have a look for the lock actuators for the alarm and check to see if there are any and if they are moving back and foward there normaly a black and will be atached to the lock rod.
Pasanger door propably just hasent been used in ages so crc/wd40 the crap outa that mother and give her a good work up with the key have patience with it keep working and jigling. if it doesent free up eventually probly has been changed at some time.
with your front washers have a look on/ under the washer bottle there will be a small round pump (may have two one for rear windor one for front) with hose and a plug conector atached to it with two wires diconect plugconector, hook up a test light between the wires and push the washer button (with the ign in the on position) the test light should iluminate if it does then the washer moter is stuffed if it doesent then there is no power going to it because you may be testeing the rear one
otherwise start looking for blown fuse.
let us know how ya get on
hope this helps

Re: Nissan Mistral help wanted- desperately!!!!
ok ,well the coolant looks brown / rusty. i flushed out the coolant system around 12 mnths ago. the thermostat has never been changed since ive had it, which is 5 years.
ive got all day at home tomorrow to get onto this so lets ee what happens. thanks so much for all of the informative replies. i just hope a non mechanic like me can make sense of it all. like i said earlier, i can do most jobs as long as i have clear instructions in laymans terms. i spent my youth in other pursuits which is now my living. so cars and motorbikes require some thinking and lots of questions on my behalf.
i change the oil and filter every 10k.
the problem ive got is eveything is labelled in japanese and im buggered if i can find a haynes manual for the dam thing.

Re: Nissan Mistral help wanted- desperately!!!!
Flush the sh!t out of the radiator and engine. Change thermostat. You are putting anti-freeze in?
Stiffen the mix to 30-50% after a good flushing. The radiator may need some professional attention.
Best of luck.

Re: Nissan Mistral help wanted- desperately!!!!
ya can alos run a bottle of rad flush throu the stsyem when your flushing it just read and folow instructions on bottle.
easy way to flush system it is trun heater to on position to open heater tap. disconect a heater hose from fire wall (there will be two black hoses that go from moter to fire wall)
take rad cap off and remove drain bung on botom of rad and blast the hose down both directions keep it going till it all comes out clean.

My terrano passenger door lock didn't work (key didn't turn lock)- turned out it had never been used and factory grease had gone hard. CRC fixed it up.
Check power at plug at washer using testlight (get a helper to operate switch), I think those motors can seize up. If its got power then the pump motor is probably the issue. Can swap around with rear squirter motor with little dificulty.

Re: Nissan Mistral help - indicator intermittent working???
well ive replacd the washer pump and its all good now.
the next thing is the damn indicators have just started going intermittently. sometimes they come on, sometimes they will click only once(flash on / off) other times they wil start flashing, stop, then as the wheel is alsmost straight start flashing again. so im thinking an electrical contact issue. seeing asall of the parts on my car are labelled in japanese and the pdf manual i got does not have pictures, i need to know where the flasher relay unit is. can anyone help?
i was going to wd40 all the connections once i can find the relay unit and track the cables and connectors.
any other usggestions?

you should be able to find it easy enough if ya can get it to work. listen for it and folow the sound youll know you on the money when you touch it and feel the relay clicking. otherwise Im shure one of the misrtal guys on here will tell you exactly where it is

Re: Nissan Mistral help wanted- desperately!!!!
My truck's electrics are retarded too. My interior lights don't work and switching them on causes the red "door open" dash light to come on for some reason. There is an audible clicking sound from under the dash when it happens. Must remember to take a look one day.
