Hey folks,
Been surfing the forums but having come up short I wanted to post to the group and get a bit of advice. I have a 1995 l200 which has served us well but the engines starting to run a bit rough (after 270,000k the cranks starting to chew into the block). With $6-7k in hand a 3ltr turbo diesel Surf with 150,000 on the clock seems to be a little out of reach.
Has anyone dropped a 3ltr into an l200 (is that even feasible without spending a fortune?). I noted a post by Sadam_Husain on this forum infering an engine swap of some sort but unlike the old toyota any info on the mitsubishis seems little to non existent.
Reconditioning the existing 2.5 ltr isnt an option. I would like to be able to overtake at will if I'm going to put any money into it.
Appreciate that the vehicle wasn't designed for a larger engine and there may be issues further down the drive train. Just looking for a 'touch' more guts on the hills and the ability to pass without a run-up.
Any suggestions of where I might turn for further info on the topic would be gratefully recieved along with suggetsions / comments
Cheers!
2.5 ltr L200 turbo diesel - engine swaps?
Re: 2.5 ltr L200 turbo diesel - engine swaps?
Consider the 2.8 engine out of the later model triton or pajero's? They are similar spec to the 3.0 you talk of but available with manual pump to make fitting much easier. But then again, you'd need to be pretty dedicated to your vehicle, costs during transplants always get carried away.
There is plenty of info available for Mitsubishi stuff though...

Cheers NJV6, Much appreciated.
Thanks for that. Wasnt sure how well the later 2.8s would actually fit in there. I will chase that up!
Really? Must be down to my search skills; bit of a dinasour. I've been strugling to find any info on the Mitsi. Type in Toyota and info abounds...
No, not all that attached to the mitsi l200s but spending a bit of money on a reconditioned engine seemed to make a lot more sense than spending 7k on a Toyota with higher ks (just trading one problem for another slightly older/'more worn' problem..?). Cant seem to get much these days for 7ish. Seems like even the terranos/wizards etc are jumping up in price since I last looked.
Thanks again for your help
