new to running a petrol motor 4wdn(had diesels)

so just got another 4wd and its got a commy v6 in it.(iv been looking thru past forums for info on this,i no theres stuff out there but couldnt find it...)
it doesnt have a snorkel yet so im going to fit one,i want to seal the engine and not miss anything can someone give me a list of things i need to seal up.any info would be great

dilectric grease on HT leads at dizzy and coil (or coilpacks) and plugs and where the leads go into the boots if you can move them some types are already glued, are probably some important areas. If you want to go nuts silicon where wires enter any plugs, and grease around the thing they plug into (some looms use splashproof plugs anyway, not sure on the commy v6s). Maybe also between dizzy cap and dizzy although some engines have a breather on the dizzy cap and dont run too well if you seal it up. Thats the majors I can think of. Somebody with that engine can probably name other vulnerable areas. Ive only got an old carby motor so provided ignition doesnt get wet its all good. Nothing a can of water dispersant doesnt fix

Ive done the above and also we use the below petroleum tape at work on all machinery, wrap it around electrical boxes,plugs etc. terrible shit to work with but it seals anything.

the commy v6 is pretty good in the water from stock (for a petrol engine) you remember nicks hilux? He would dunk that thing every trip with no issues. A very big difference compared to my old supra.

Di electric grease is good but you should be pretty ok. Keep a rag and some wd-40 or similar in your truck and you'll soon find out what gets wet and what doesnt. Drop a cyclinder or two and a good rev or two usually sorted it

If you have on board air or an air tank a dust gun is bloody handy if you get a bit of water around also.

truck has electric fans that come on automatically is it worth connecting a bye pass switch to turn these off when you thru big water holes so that the water doesnt wreck the blades....or is this a waste of time?

yea its a good idea but use a 3 way switch so you either have a buzzer or flashing light that turns on when fans are bypassed or you'll forget at some point.

I assume the fans are through a good fuse, make sure you keep some spares because when the fans load up in the mud or water they tend to draw big amps and blow the fuse

nothing to do with water but its worth making sure the oil level is always full or a bit overfull coz those sumps arent really designed for offroad and angles

Seal up your relays if they're in the engine bay, didn't do mine and i blew up the ecu after taking mine for a swim.

Had a 3 way switch in my surf when i converted it to electric fans and found a switch that was off in the middle position so if i looked just to the right of the temp gauge and the switch was in the middle positio. I knew the fans were off. Also had a full on position to run both fans full noise independantof the thermo switch
