the zuk iv got has safari diffs under it,it has a horrible handbrake set up with a disk on the drive shaft and a caliper mounted above it,hangs to low(its down by the diff head) and il end up smashing it off.my idea is to make up some mounting brackets and run another set of calipers aswell, like mr2 ones but cant remember if its the non-turbo or turbo ones i need.do people reckon this will work?or are there other calipers i can use?or other ideas for a handbrake set up.

Was going to edit other post but I have just checked and I ended up using calipers of a Nissan Bluebird RNU12. Nissan rotor thickness 9-10mm
Used solid front discs on the rear

Turbo and non turbo MR2 rear brakes are the same so either will do so long as its the early 90's shape (one with the 3sge or 3sgte 2 litre engine)muddyplumber wrote:the zuk iv got has safari diffs under it,it has a horrible handbrake set up with a disk on the drive shaft and a caliper mounted above it,hangs to low(its down by the diff head) and il end up smashing it off.my idea is to make up some mounting brackets and run another set of calipers aswell, like mr2 ones but cant remember if its the non-turbo or turbo ones i need.do people reckon this will work?or are there other calipers i can use?or other ideas for a handbrake set up.

There are also several honda calipers that will do the job, like these accord ones that I had on an RX3 with a hilux diff

Never argue with an idiot, they drag you down to their level then beat you with experiance!

for what its worth although the subaru calipers are getting pretty old and out dated they clamp up real tight on the handbrakes on both of my trucks
and I've read comments about other caliper handbrakes not holding so well although that could just come down to how the handbrakes and cables have been set up, both my trucks use the 2 individual calliper cables and come up to a junction with an equaliser T Bar to tie it back into the truck handbrake cable. A caliper handbrake will always work better if its the main braking caliper so you can put your foot on the brake to clamp it up first then pull the handbrake on to hold it rather than stretching and pulling the shit out of the cable trying to clamp it up tight

I used EA Falcon calipers on my project.Needed to weld 2 pieces of flat bar on your kidney shaped mounting bracket to locate pads so they had to be tig welded and crack tested to pass certification. These fit on the safari rotors but they are close to 14mm but are cheap, biggish piston and a good handbrake.I originally tried a set of Isuzu mu calipers but these were a total waste of time.Cert guy said the brakes were awesome when he did the tests.
