Hey Guys
Gutted as to make this post. Away in Malaysia at the moment and just before i left i bought a 1990 Hilux Surf with a 1UZ conversion. Took a good look at it before i bought her and everything seemed tops.
Left the truck with a good mate while i was away (for security) and just got a FB message from him to tell me he thinks the G/Box has shat itself..
I dont know SFA about transmissions so hoping someone here might be able to shed abit more light on it from the limited info i have at the moment.
So he tells me he was taking it for a quick drive to another mates place and when he shifted up into third (driving normally, not thrashing it or anything) it made a hua crunching noise. He shifted up to forth and as he was only a hundred metres from our mates place just coasted the rest of the way. Got there and chucked it in first and there is now no first, also no third or reverse. Second and forth seem to be sweet but makes crunching noises when moving forward so its now been parked.
Its apparently running a G series box (not sure which yet, need to wait till i get home or get a reply email from the guy i bought it from and who built it) mated to a 1UZFE.
Anyone have any clues what may have happened, and (i know, bad question with a variety of answers) what a fix might cost me?
Its really gutting to have happened as ive only driven it three times now (once up from Chch to Akl - no issues at all) and was looking forward to a burn when i got back home in three weeks.
Realise not much info to go on but really just hoping someone might recognise the issue and give me some insights.
Any help muchly appreciated!
Alex.
G/box appears to have shat itself..

Most likely the countershaft bearings have collapsed and the countershaft is now fcuked as well as the rest of the gears.
Strip it as see how bad it is, but I'd be expecting it to be not worth fixing.

G series boxes are reasonably easy to find. Just chuck another one at. Pull the other one to bits (if you can be bothered) to see what happened.
Check ya rear tyres when you get home
Third gear burnouts will kill one pretty quick
