i going to look at a 1974 110 flatdeck nextweekend that i can get cheap, what do i need to look at that can cause probs?
guy said that he thinks a break cyliander might be leaking, are these still around or does something else fit.

It'll be a 109 as 110s didn't come out till about 1983 or 4. 110 Land Rovers have coil springs. Whereas a 74 will be leaf sprung.

thanks it what he told me it was on phone. he also said it got the bigger diffs in it.

As above, if it's 1974 it will be a 109" wheelbase series 3 not a 110". 110 did not come out until 1983. In 83 LWB was just known as 110 and SWB as 90 until 1989 when they gained the Defender name to differentiate them from the Discovery when launched.
1" longer wheelbase is the least significant difference. 109 will be leaf sprung, part time 4wd and have a split screen. 110 is coil sprung full time 4wd and one piece screen.
Both however have "salisbury" back axle. Much bigger hypoid design and much stronger than rover diff. Ratios are different and 109 axles are narrower than 110.

ok thanks for that.so is there anything i really need to check on a 109 eg where aare the bad rust spots .
