Atf in a winch
Atf in a winch
Has anybody ever cleaned the grease out of the gears in an electric winch and put ATF back in to make the freespool easier. I know Toyota winches are like this factory, but wanted to look at doing this to a Superwinch to make the freespool easier.
Re: Atf in a winch
Know a guy who cleaned the grease out of his and put some of that Moreys oil stabliser stuff in ( the gooey stuff) works better than grease. you dont want to go to thin or you run the risk of it getting into the inside of the drum and onto the brake
Toy - Zuk chassis tub, hilux 4.88 axles and transfer, Nissan CA18DE motor and auto trans, sc12 supercharger, 32 10'5 simex, twin motor 8274 custom freespool. Well the parts are all there in various corners of the shed

Cheers for that. Don't have to worry about the brake on a Superwinch as it is in the end of the gearbox, looks like a sprag clutch type system. The centre of the drum is empty.
I like the idea of something a bit sticky as the seals on the end of the drum look ok for grease but probably not for thin oil so the Morleys should be good.

Re: Atf in a winch
just get a semi fluid grease.
Re: Atf in a winch
Semi fluid greese is the go. Don't under any circumstances put Moorleys in a superwinch as it gums up the freespool badly.
