Rim Offset issue

Post by Dirtydog »

Ok so some of you may have seen my thread for a SAS terrano,

but there is a couple of things i need to nut out before its final.

the main issue is that the front diff is 100mm in total, (50mm each side) wider than the rear.
im currently running 15x8 -19 rims.

i thought i would be able to do it by putting +12 rims on the front, and a 20mm spacer at the rear. which would be 102mm in total, so 2mm off.

but unfortunatly i cant put +12's on the front. (from what i have been re searching)

i could put -44 on the rear with spacers, but i dont know what that would do to the axle and it means i would have to go to 10" rims.

So any thoughts or comments?
would definitely appreciate it.

because its an on road vehicle i dont think its legal to get them cut, otherwise thats the way i would go.

the way its looking i will have to buy new ones, but would prefer to keep the -19s if possible.

you can do it legally, plus if your getting a cert get it recorded that you have done that. easy as, my mate just had 4 rims done locally think it was about $600 all up

wont 2 different offsets front and rear be a PITA when it comes to your spare tyre?

not realy just use the setting for the front wheels as it will just bring the rear wheel in by a little bit. no biggy as it is just a spare

You do not have to make the track the same front and rear if you do not want to.
From the "Hobby Car Technical Manual" for a Low Volume Vehicle that is being certed the "Front Track to be within 20% of Rear Track"

In the mud having different tracks means that the rear will run partly out of the groove made by the front = better traction

So it Might be worthwhile having the front wider than the rear in the end then?

i didn't realize that it was legal to have two different widths.
but i suppose thats how all those hot rods are legal.

well in that case i might leave it as is for now, and see if i like it or not.

and as with the spare i would only ever run it till the other tyre is repaired/replaced.
