New Tyres
I am wanting to get some new tyres for my lwb vit. I reckon some 215/75/R15's should do the trick.
I need to replace all four plus the spare, as whoever had it before put some nasty little road tyres on it, so i will replace them all at once.
So any suggestions on what tyre to get? I think only AT, or an agressive AT, as I use it quite a bit as my daily driver so don't want to get MT that are really soft and will wear out quickly.
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=72201642 I have looked at these, only $120 each!, but I don't think these will be too good off road.
I went to beaurepairs and they have said $250 odd for some AT's that look good and chunky,
Any ideas?
Thanks

Your right. Those tyres would be useless off road in mud....
I've been using Wrangler M/T tyres now for 2 years. Done 35,000k on them including 3 trips round the south Island. They have worn really well. Still have 8mm of tread left. I've also used them seriouly in the mud, nice on the the road as well. Highly recommend them.

He has suggested a couple of others
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Kumho&tireModel=Road+Venture+AT+825 $195 each
or for $170 each

These were the ones i was thinking about:

Dont seem too bad on road and not too bad offroad, and faily cheap too
last time he wanted $400 for them....

good second set of tyres for you zuk, they have all the scars etc of being used off road, however still in good useable nick, i would rate tread at 10mm overall, auction is for 5 tyres all the same tread and condition and 5 standard white spoke zuk wheels which are 15 inch and 5.5 wide i think

AT's are generally crap at everything. Depending on what you drive MT's don't wear too badly. My hankook (which are made from old jandels) have done about 40 k and are only down to half tread
That is on a zook though, and that is basically all on road stuff. Pretty good value for money too about $700 - $800 new for four if you look around.

I think he may disagree somewhat
I agree with both sides....NJV6 has alot of good points from the otherside of the fence but zuky is kind of corret hard core offroad there not much chop.... but there was a almost stock rugger on almost bald AT's on the last trip here in wellington (pretty hardcore, RALLYWOODS) and it went very well gave my vitara a ood run for my money which was quite embarrasing

80 series tow bus towing a redneck ass vitara

I agree with both sides, but would be a little more diplomatic with my reply
I've had guys in thick clay/pine needles on AT's go just as far as I have on my MTR's, after all, they both turned to slicks within the first few meters of the track, and my 33's ended up looking like 35's with the amount of crap stuck to them

Anyway........
Diplomacy...
To make a statement that AT's are crap at Everything is a pretty strong comment. hence my reply.
I do agree, they are no match for a MT off road in most circumstances and I run MT's but AT's (most) will run rings around a MT on the black stuff.

All Terrains have their place as do Highway Tyres, HT's are really good in wet slippery road conditions which is really important if you have to stop fast in the rain...some AT's have a tendency to just slide in the wet...mud tyres do it as well.
I run a set of Wrangler ATR's on the Suzuki....better than the OEM goodyears....these are 80/20 (80% on road / 20% offroad), wet weather performance is pretty good , I was looking at HT's but then the AT's give me that ability to happily deal with our crappy potholed roads and when weather conditions suit suit. also handy for going on to dirt, farms paddocks, etc when it goes out to various club events.
Mud tyres seem to be the preference for mostly offroad, some people run 2 sets....
