Kiwipete and Elmos Culverdon to Cheviot trip

Post by Elmo »

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eANpNtxm--g

11meg vid, 3 mins 30ish long.

Video'd with a cheap web cam attached to the L/H mirror of Elmos Saf.

Shows some time cruising round the hills, a little bit of mud, and some playing at the Waipara on the way home.

The first lil bit of the vid is a little unclear as I didnt have the colours set right.

No sound of the trip, but there is a music overlay which is Nessaja, by Scooter.

Enjoy.

Loads no probs at alle here, great vid indeed considering how it was made.
Amasing what a little bit of kiwi ingenuity can achieve.
And to think it was splatterd with mud, none getting on the lense.

What is needed now is several planted on the truck with a selector switch to choose which one to use.
Ok people, move along. Nothing to see here. Thank you, move along.

Very stunning, great job Elmo, really enjoyed the soundtrack as well, I am keen to catch up and have a look at the setup, or maybe you could give us all a run down on what you put together down the cable from the web cam to achieve such great results. 8) 8)

Web cam = http://www.geniusnet.com/geniusOnline/o ... ubId=30912

Cam at the bottom, its MUCH smaller than the pic. not much bigger than the stricker side of a match box really. Bracket was clipped under the glass of the L/H mirror, adjusted mirror to jam on it really. And added a little bit of tape for supprt.

Lead fed directly to a USB extension lead and into the laptop.

Recored at 320x240 I think. At not the highest resolution either.

Used software that came with the cam to record.

Changes I will be making.

How I mount the camera, want it to be more flexible with locations, ie on a suction base, or similar.

Sound, easy enough, just ad a mic, with the right recording software.

And recording software, it appears Microsoft movie maker can actually capture video as well, with sound. So will try that next.

Camera cost me $35, thats with a little discount, was $49.99 at Bond and Bond.

Ya got me all enthused now, dragged out the old laptop to see what can be done with it, it might struggle to upgrade from Windows95  to even 98 I think, time for a clean up and see

Im sure as ;png as you can get the right software on it (most cams come with atleast 98 drivers, some may have 95, but thats a diff type of operating system) then Im sure it will capture video just fine.

You'll prolly have to turn the the frame rate down, but even 15 frames a second is fine.

Just process it on ya pc.
