havent had it long
went to start it the other day and the bateries were flat

put my multi meter on it and at idle its only puting 9v charge into the bateries and at revs its only just hiting 12v
the charge light is not coming on in the pajero i have changed out the bateries with ones that i no are good but each morning they are dead

Re: question for smart people
Should be charging the battery at somewhere between 13.8 - 14.2 volts , just because the charge light isnt on doesnt mean there isnt a problem
Re: question for smart people
I've got a mate who had the same problem, was the alternator in the end.
Re: question for smart people
cool thanks guys ill pull it out and get it checked
Re: question for smart people
Would be worth getting battery(/ies) tested before going as far as pulling alternator.
If battery sad enough then it can make the alternators job hard enough to give similar symptoms to bad alternator.
Easier if its just a dud battery

Re: question for smart people
Alternator,
If it was the battery the charging volts would still be ok (13.2-14.5ish)

Re: question for smart people
yep alternator. buuut if you put good batterys in your truck then i'd be checking for a current draw when the key is out of ignition. Even with stuffed alt the batterys should still have charge in them whenleft sitting over night
Re: question for smart people
The cold weather effects the battery also the age of the battery also I am having trouble starting my truck, but I know my battery has done its dash.
Battery's dont like the cold especially if they are old, also what the other's have said above.
Cheers.

Re: question for smart people
agree with the others
A good batery should be able to sit for 3 months and still start a vheicle in reality iv found its more like 2 months.
the most amount of drain on the bat should not realy be more than 0.2 amps with all electrics turned off. if its higher then something is drainig the bat.
the average life expectancy of new bats is 4.5 years. some shorter and longer generaly speeking i've found the bigger bats last longer. some of them ive seen still going strong after 8 years.
remember if your bats have been getting big discharges you idealy should give them a full recharge on a good bat charger
Anyway just some usless batry info for ya. cos like the others said its your alternator
