Truck Wanted!

Post by Mintie »

Hi Guys,

New on here but have visited over the last few years. About to start a new job and need a daily driver that can also fit a few other needs I have...

Here are the requirements:
Towbar
Economical (so less that 2L and preferably a 4cyl)
Petrol
hi-lo 2wd/4wd manually selectable
Reliable
4 seats (but don't mind a 2 door)
Manual
Medium tow capacity (Small trailer of firewood etc)
Needs to be OK off road but don't need anything extreme or highly modded
Budget is $2k-$3k.

From my research its looking like a Suzuki Escudo, Vitara, or SJ*

Any suggestions? Ideas? Need something fairly quickly and would prefer in the North island.

Please please please send me details of any trucks that match this description!

Escudo would probably be best around your budget, and reasonable comfortable on the road

This is from a member on here, has had good engine work so shouldnt have any problems there, could remove cage if u didnt want it but handy to have. Will just need those F#$ked sills repaired / cut out and replaced before any mechanic would even consider giving it a warrant. But not a major job depending how capable you are. Cheap price tho...

Looks like fun but im after something ready to use on road as my daily, Dont have time to get it up to standard for road use. Something closer to standard would suit me better - I will eventually tinker with it myself.

This ^ seems reasonable?

yea its quite a tidy 413 but hard to tell from those photos. would want to have a good look for it as its quite old and would most likely have rust problems. The g13 engine is not the quickest in these things and would struggle to pull a maggot off a chop. Ive just taken the g13 out of my samurai and replaced it with a g16 out of a vitara. The 413 would tow piss all. the are an awesome little truck but very hard and bouncy on the road. I have to get my mrs to hold her tits before bump we hit in mine. They are very light and bouncy on the road. Would def reccomend a good test drive before you make your mind up. I think a vitara / escudo would be better for your situation IMHO. Get a 16valve injected one and you will be fine towing small loads etc

Ok thanks for that, I will concentrate my efforts on a 1600cc efi Escudo or Vitara. What is the difference between them?

Not so Keen on a Misti, trying to keep rego and running costs to a minimum. On that note both the vitara and the escudo are full time 4wd right? So the sj 413 having a 2h speed would be alot more economical?

This seems to tick all my boxes.... can you guys advise if thats a 16v or 8v engine? Can any of you see anything I should be aware of with it?

Thanks!

Edit - Can clearly see it says 16v on the front of the engine cover

 It's only a little bit off your requirements. Although I wouldn't consider an escudo/vitara that economical.

the diesel surfs are pretty economical. and rego isnt as massive as a ute as they are a passenger vehicle. All escudo and vitaras are part time 4wd (2h, 4h, 4L)

Thanks for all the info, Hard to tell from the pics - do you guys think this has extractors on it? how big of a deal is it if there are no extractors on it? Im guessing it wouldnt be a big job to install them but has the damage already been done?

Thanks!

was looking for about 5 K... springs from 4 door (+1" suspension lift), 2" body lift, 235/75/15 front bumper has a battle scar but mechanically a very good car and well looked after.

Oh yep, 96, 133000 km on the clock.

PM me if interested.
