Fj40 engine options

Post by 97lux »

I have a '84 fj40 thats been a long term project (350 chev conversion, power steering, disc front, pto and winch, lifted springs and shackels, cage and front rear and side bars, 33'' swampers with 10'' beadlocks) . Have just run the cam in now the engine conversion complete but due to a knee injury i can no longer drive a manual and wanted to know of a turbo diesel auto combination that would be suitable. Any advice is much appreciated. Plus any ideas what a rebuilt chev with bell housing all new: stater, alternater, heavy clutch ($1000) edlebrock truck avenger carb ($1,300), stainless block huggers and twin exhaust, msd electronic ignition and second hand alloy intake manifold would be worth ??

Cheers curly12, its a good option but im leaning towards a lazy torquey turbo diesel and auto to tow with.

personal opinion it would be quicker easier and possibly cheaper to swap that trans in

why not hunt for the 4wd trans from a yank pickup to bolt to the yank engine.

even better try looking for a pranged up holden crewman cross 8.
