TD27t boost and fuel

Post by te_rarawa »

i have recently put in a egt gauge and already had a boost gauge... i want to up the boost but dont really know whats safe to run in the navara. i have a turbo pump aswell. if i turn the boost up a bit will i need to turn the fuel up a touch or will the boost compensator compensate for the boost????

also what would be the max egt temp be before i start getting into trouble.

have had alot of turbo cars but never really mucked about with the diesels in the same respect.
i want my truck to go a touch harder

cheers

Where is the EGT probe?
Mine is through the heat sheild bolt directly before the turbo.

I was hitting temps of 825c momentarily. Consensus seems to be that 700 is pretty much tops - ali melts at 660c so it occurs to me you don't want to spend too much time over that.
That said, they say it's running hotter in the pre-combustion chamber than it's reading at the probe.
I set a target of 600c max and have been able to meet that. It took a water/air intercooler and water injection to do so - but it works.

Again, for reliability sake I set a limit of 18 PSI boost. It appears that motor can deal with more, but some say the turbo becomes unreliable at much over that and I'm not too keen to find out if they are right or wrong.

Didn't add much fuel in the end, but have a 2.5" exhaust and a K&N filter.
It goes a lot better.

I run a water/air intercooler so no need to run a scoop or cut holes.

Looks identical to this - http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-par ... 633384.htm - but I got mine from Scarles. I use a water pump from a Subaru Legacy, some of them run water/air intercoolers from factory.

Just seemd like too much trouble to run a front mount or top mount.
If you run a top mount I figure you need a fan for when the going is slow.

Boost tap, I just run a cheapy from Scarles. Sometimes it allows an over boost, but as I'm aiming for 18psi I set it to 17 and it's not the end of the world when it hits 19 on the odd occasion.

Basically it's the hardest screw to get at. Should have a metal cap over it (well mine did) it's got a lock nut on it too. Don't go using my instructions tho, better if someone cn post a pic. I would but believe me, you can't get a photo of it in place.

Std td27t is 760 at the turbo measured on my stock one before I wound up the boost and fuel.
This was tapped straight into the turbo housing

There are some variations of pump, but this is where the one is on this one.
One of the lock wired screws is the full throttle stop (pays not to touch this one) the other is the fuel screw.

Cheers,
