I'm looking for some 40s, is there much out there other than the Toyo open country mt and Nitto mud grappler?
Has anyone had experience with 40s and if so what brand?

40" Trepador comp tyres

Toyota Landcruiser FJ40, front and rear lockers, 35" simex.
Toyota FJ45 build in progress.
Tires are like boobs, they always look big until you have played with them for a while, then you just want a bigger set.

Import some 39.5 Swampers.. bring in 2 extra for MNC and he'd be your best mate
Dont follow me. i'll get stuck and need a tow..
Re: 40s whats out there??
If you are looking at 40" tyres I am guessing you know your shit, so base your decesion on the terrain you will be encountering most of. You won't find a 40 that travels nice on the road unless you go to a 24" plus rim size.
I love my swampers, for all I use them for (which isn't much right now
). Everything but the price is good in my book

Yup, i'd be into that.
The TSL Swampers don't cost much to buy (just check out some of the US 4x4 websites. Its the shipping and GST that are the killers

Mate, those are way bigger than 40 inch's. Here is a pic of the 39.5's on my 40... and they are starting to look pretty small to me (only 3.5 inches bigger than the three block Simex's that alot of people run):

What about getting some thrown in a Container coming from the states? Find somebody bringing in a car. I know a fella that brings in a few caravans from the US.

Easier said than done. If I could find someone with spare container space that was willing to have a few big tyres floating round in there then I'd be keen.
Think I tried your mate that imports Caravan's when I bought the last Bogger. Cant remember exactly what the problem was (maybe freight forwarder made it difficult?) but he didn't sound particularly keen.

Re: 40s whats out there??
Maybe head over here: http://www.nz-hotrod.com/vbulletin/index.php and try your luck with somebody bringing in a container? or try this fella: http://www.chucksnz.co.nz/ He brings in cars and parts all the time from the US. Advertises in the nzhotrod mag.
ahh and Sorry for the threadjack.

Re: 40s whats out there??
Treps, creepys, Irocs, Goodyear Mtrs, BFG Krawlers, theres plenty available but as said above freight is the killer as there seems to be bugger all brought into nz. Theres plenty available here in OZ an the treps seem to be best value for money by far. Most winch/race trucks run 37"s. I know they can be had for $500 AUD per tyre not sure on a price for 40"s tho.
While Im in Queensland Im thinking of buying some treps an bringing them home with me when I eventually move back home

Re: 40s whats out there??
It wil be softly used offroad most weekends, going on 20 inch rims. I don't care to much about on road comfort otherwise I wouldn't have gone the lift I am. from my understanding the importer of nitto will be bringing in 40s an other specialty sizes
Re: 40s whats out there??
I don't think the importers are planning to, but we can probably get Nitto's in for ya, but they are f****n expensive and a 3 odd month wait. Let me know if you really want to pursue it and I'll get a price....
We can also backorder the Toyo's, but there's also around a 3 month wait.
What exact size are you wanting, I'll see what I can find...

Re: 40s whats out there??
I thought I'd see what I can find anyhoo, Toyo is a no-go, only allowed to market them in the U.S.
Maxxis and Nitto (Nitto NZ have none on order) are coming back to me.
Edit; Maxxis are a no go, though they can do them in 17" or 22".

Re: 40s whats out there??
Will definately be getting a set just not sure when. Rang toyo once last week and then again this week. The first 2 people I spoke to at NWA told me it would take 3-5 months to get in the country then the third guy told me that they weren't able to be brought in. The guy I spoke with at YHI (importers of nitto) said that they would able to supply 40s. I'm looking at 40x15.5R20s unless I can find 22 inch steel wheels

Yup, the product guy at NWA said no, he's the one who knows.
Yhi are getting a price and availability for me, they say they can get them tho. Will know later in the week.
You in a shop?
Re: 40s whats out there??
Sure am in a shop. Got a price on 40x13.5R17 maxxis today. Not the size I was after but for the price they may be what I end up getting, depending on YHI
Re: 40s whats out there??
Looks like you're going Maxxis, Nitto won't supply these to NZ either. Bugger.
