Terrano guard shield-mud catchers - flares

Hi All

Where is the best place to get hold of some rubber guard, mud catching strips. Even you have ideas on using something else would be welcomed.
The new tyres sit out from the body a bit and will need an alternative to the original.
Ideally something that doesn't reduce the wheel arch size by mounting to the outside instead of the inside edge.

Sounds like you after some cheap flares, on my old Bighorn I used some bunnings plastic garden edging it was cheep as I think about $15 a roll

Where did ya get that stuff mate , I've seen the rubber roll at Para Rubber but that metal strip ? haven't seen anything like that anywhere I've been looking. Want to do something like that on my Wrangler, mainly to stop the masssive amounts of mud covering my softtop at the first mudhole. about how much for all that, if I'm allowed to ask

Hi greg. The strip was from para rubber 6x100mm and I used 4m of it. Price on there website. Alloy strip was from ullrich alloy here in chch cant member size prob 2x20mm and was approx $6 for 5m. S/s rivets were a few bucks

On my Terrano I used Bushranger style flares, (ones without the steel wire insert). I do not know where you can get them know but there was a bus/truck place up Nth somewhere that stocked the rubber and sold it by the meter. Have a wee google

I strongly suggest you do not go for the garden edging style on a Terrano as they will rip your guards to bits when they contact something, the guards are not very strong at all and most of the arch strength comes from the factory flares.

Flares have been covered heaps.
No idea what your limits are in regard to mounting but on my patrol I used conveyor belt and cut and riveted it. Self cutting screws would be easier. Works great and folds out of the way if you hit stuff. You can pick up second hand belt for nothing.

I had a quick look around, couldn't find anything that I can justify the cost on , So I ended up buying some garden edging, but yet to use it , read so much negatives ..
My rims hang out a fair bit more than my Safari gaurds, so may not be so bad to have the strong? flares

And Has anyone used anything for Inner gaurds? Replace the Plastic inner gaurds ? ... I may use mud flap rubber on the rear of mine, so I don't bash my rear fuel tank hose/ filler

I cut the belt to cover the whole space so its almost full width on the fronts. then theres no need for the stock inners. Its fastened along the outer guard and inside the arch to the body.

I use my rims and barwork to keep the body away from the majority of damage

I've got a Y60 /GQ also, with the ten inch wide rims, but LWB ..

My steel rims never got damaged. I'd understand ali rims maybe but even they are pretty tough. Probably just wasn't rough enough to cause that sorta damage. The Creepys also stick out quite a lot further than the rims.

I got some identical to those rubbermark ones a few years back from this place. No idea if they are still around. Think they were about $10/m off the top of my head at trade.

Hahahaha, well shit a brick. Has it taken me that long.
Tonight I shall celebrate, I have just put the flares on......

I've gone with the stainless steal, self-tapping screw fixing options. Not to big a head so the flares can rip off fairly easily if needed.
