What is the gashest repair you have seen?
Just got to thinking about how dodge some blokes are with repairs...
The worst I have seen is probably the two hunks of 4x2 in the bottom of my drivers door - each one with 4 screws in it. 2 from each side - to hold the two doors skins together.
But the worst I have heard of - it was in the Darwin Awards were the guys who replaced a blown fuse in their truck with a .22 cartridge!

another temp fuse that works well is the silver paper inside a cigy packet as it wont catch on fire but will burn out.
I once used the missis at the time, panty hose, as a temp v belt on a old nissan avinair diesel when the alt/ vacume belt broke.
It worked for 50km.
long enough to get home and as a bonus, saved time when we got there

during a trip to waiheke island a few years back my radiator blew,so off to the scrap yard and through some contacts of my dads scored a free rad and all sorts of hoses and then proceeded to strap it to the front light bar and run hoses out the front of the grill.worked great but man did i get some funny looks when i turned up at the ferry to head home,as well as the drive through botany

When I was a young fella living in Chch, one of my work mates (apprentices) purchased his first car... Was an Escort...
Looked real rough....We all suspected there was some doggy stuff going on with it...
First good frost we were heading to tech and went over that hump bridge down by the rail station.. Came over the top at speed.....Couldn't stop in time and rear ended the car in front....
Then this exo skeleton fell off his car... sheets and sheets of bog....
Chicken wire and paper.... and a cloud of dust !

Mate, sounds like you've not had a lot of luck with that truck

MNC - she has been a bit of a pain in the proverbial to be honest. I have just been ticking away on a few things quietly. But almost every time I work on it I find some thing that is just not quite how I want it, or some more bog.
I had a quick look when I bought it to see if I could see any rust or dodgy repairs etc, and did not see much that worried me for a 1980 vintage.
It is my first 40 - so I had a bit to learn too. But I like the fact it has power steering and disc brakes done. Being the first I was not familiar with what should and should not have been there.
But I still grin when I drive it around the block!

Re: What is the gashest repair you have seen?
to be fair you'd have to expect any 40 series cruiser to have a fair pile of bog and rust repairs in it coz there all 30-40 years old and they were all rustbuckets to start with but you do expect repairs to be done reasonably well not filled up with bits of timber and shit

Re: What is the gashest repair you have seen?
had a car that had a front strut and brakes off another car fitted on one side. wondered why it tended to pull to the side under brakes.
found a strut and brakes that matched the biggest brake, so it had 99% of the braking was in the front
work ute came back from insurance repair job with brake line loose and leaking, deck bolts finger tight and a bent driveshaft.
trailers are good entertainment for dodgy work

There was a photo on here with tennis balls instead of a shock absorber in the middle of the springs which looked dodgy as.
