3L fitted into SURF

Post by skux »

Ive just fitted a 2.8 into my surf as the 2.4 shat itself,

The 2.8 ive fitted runs well etc BUT its very slow/gutless, I towed a covered trailer today with couple sets draws in it. Pretty much the whole trip i was in and out of 3/4 gear getting up to a make of 80k which was on slight down hills.

Any susgesstions? I put new diesel filter etc on , cleaned air filter.

The 3L is a 2.8 L (2,779 cc) 4-cylinder diesel engine. Bore is 96 mm and stroke is 96 mm, with a compression ratio of 22.2 : 1. Output is 91 hp (68 kW) at 4,000 rpm with 19.2 kg·m (188 N·m) of torque at 2,400 rpm.

68 kW Could be part of the problem lol ?

Check the valve clearances can make quite a difference. You need to get new shims made if they are out. Does it smoke at all? Mine wasnt smoking in the slightest and after doing valve clearances i wound the fuel up until it only just had visible smoke under load and after all that is goes way better. Would hardly go into the wind before and now will accelerate ok at 100 in 5th. Still slow as buggery but way better than it was.
