Re 80 series cruiser 1997:
I've seen on an internet forum that it's possible to modify a H/L activated central diff lock to a dashboard switch, so it can be in or out of CDL in H or L. Can anyone confirm this, or have experience of having modified one?
I have seen a 97 manual I'd like to purchase, but it doesn't have CDL on the dash, and I only want to buy it if it can be modified.
Appreciate any help with this,
Cheers,
Cameron

Re: Land Cruiser central diff lock modification
After i spoke to you this afternoon, I realized that this could be a part time 4wd model, rather than the much more common full time 4wd. part time is fine for most people, but you should still be able to select H4.
Tony.

I may be wrong here, but are the ones without CDL because they are part-time 4x4?
Any ones with CDL can be selected in both high and low range?

I have a 95 auto that only has central diff lock in low and also has ABS.
It seems that they all have central diff lock but most have the button on the dash, that gives the option of having CDL on or off whenever you need it and some have don't have the button on the dash and only have it on the High Low lever and it only engages in low.
Man I would really like some answers to this little riddle.
When I have can make the time I will pull the center consul of and see what I can see.

Just a side note.... the dash board is a pain in the a*** to remove on an 80 series.... Brilliant truck, and I love mine... but the dash has to be the worst designed... all one piece... except when you get a bit excited, and end up with 2 pieces
lol

Have a look at this site. I've done the second one as I wanted to be able to run low range without the centre diff lock engaged as I do alot of heavy towing on the tarseal and use low range alot on hill climbs towing my boat.
