Emission control gear - mistral td27t

so im looking at stripping some stuff out of my engine bay, i have a 94 mistral, i have been doing alot of searching on here and other places so i know about removing the egr valve/pipe and butterfly valve in the intake, but i want to know what else is there that will no longer be required that is part of the system?

i really hate cluttered engine bays so the more stuff i can remove without tripping engine check lights the better, this is my first diesel vehicle but im no stranger to turbos, having come from owning and modifying a subaru wrx for the past 5 years, so still getting the hang of what electrical stuff controls what and so on with diesels.

yup that kind of helps haha, so the 3 solenoid looking things by the airfilter housing, are they all to do with EGR? so i can remove all those vac lines? and also can i unplug them and remove altogether or will i get a warning of some sort come up?

also i was wondering what the solenoid looking thing does thats on the firewall by brake booster, it has a small vac line coming from vac pump on alternator.

interesting reading,

I read that if it the EGR butterfly sticks open during acceleration it causes an engine braking type effect, wonder if its possible to convert the EGR into an manual engine brake

it opens during acceleration so it doesn't cause engine braking effect.
it may close under deceleration to cause more engine braking.
but exhaust brakes work better.

I think this is for fast idle when a/c is on
If you break it... build it stronger.

yea i think you are right from what i have read since posting.

ended up pulling all the sensors out that were on the airbox, and associated hoses. and i twisted the airbox and made up a straight 2.5 inch pipe into the gaurd for cold air like the factory plastic thing but way bigger.

found out yesterday i also have 3 glow plugs that are dead, no wonder its been a bitch to start in the mornings lately. :(

I have been trying to figure out this emission control gear on my terrano (2.7 turbo).

What I would like to know is what I can remove and what to block off etc without causing other problems. (vacuum hoses and the like)

I have seen in other threads that the butterfly valve can be removed, and it seems pretty straight foward but what is the actual point of it? im woried ill make more problems? I have a fair bit of oil spitting out of mine and if I don't need it would love to get rid of it.

Im guessing that the oil gets in there from the hose that comes off the rocker cover? whats the idea of that?

also... whats the best way to go about removing the intake manifold for cleaning? the injector lines cover up the bolts etc and has got me scratching my head...

well yours should be the same as mine unless yours is a later model.

so far i have removed all 3 sensors that are bolted to the airbox, unplugged them completely and removed all the vaccum lines.

i also took the butterfly valve off, stripped the actuator off it and removed the butterfly plate, and refit the empty housing back onto the truck. i will remove this completely when i fit an intercooler soon.

runs fine with this done no bad effects, actually feels like it flows alot better, think my intake mod helped alot as it basically doubled the flow.

i still have to remove the EGR valve but have disabled it for now with removing those sensors, egr would be best done with inlet manifold off which from what i can see is just the 8 main bolts onto the head, you shouldnt need to removed any injector lines to get it off if you look closely.

i have got a bit distracted with what i had planned to do as i ended up with a leaking diesel pump a few days ago, from putting gull diesel in it more often than i usually would, i didnt really think about it but the damn thing still has rubber orings in it so never been resealed from when the diesel changed years ago, and so no good for bio blends. note to self : stay away from gull for now.

if your getting blowby (oil in intake) best thing to do is use an oil catch can and vent it, least then you can see how bad it really is as well, but from what i read its fairly normal on these old engines.

best to remove the factory blow by seperator and install a aftermarket job anyway. thats if the 94 has them, mines a 98

I have just taken my intake manifold off, (egr removal and cleaning). Dont ever want to have to do that again so is there anything else I should be doing before i put it back together? Also how much would a new gasket cost?

I used to tinker with alot of RB turbo engine's as long as the faces are nice and clean get a tube of windscreen urethane, nissan gaskets are stupidly overpriced at times.

I have never had a boost leak from using urethane as a liquid gasket running 25/ 30 psi on turbochargers,

so i don't see any difference using it on nissans diesel engines

Figure it may slow heat transfer to the inlet manifold and thus lower intake temps

you will only get heat soak if the engine is sitting idling alot, same goes for top mount intercoolers, the more mass the longer it takes to cool,

Hhmm, so paper gasket or something else like that three bond stuff? what would be cheaper?
