Cheap daily driver 4x4 wanted

Post by richdale »

After a good condition 4x4 WOF and Reg all up to date etc. Around the 4-5k mark. Can be standard as. Don't mind high ks if its been looked after. Have been looking at, terrano, cruisers, surf, vitara, hilux and the like. Doesn't need to be pretty but I do need to drive it daily so mechanically sound and any standard mechanical stuff (eg, surf head replaced) a must. Prefer one of the above. Have been scouring trademe for months a while but its a bit of a mission. I'm around the lower central north island.

Any help would be great! :D :D
Thanks!

Awesome thanks,

should of mentioned definately has to be manual :) . not too keen on mitsis but terranos seem to be all good. Need to find one that hasn't been thrashed (unreasonably  ) is the hardest in this price range

SWB Pajeros seem reasonably cheap- is there a reason? My experience with mitsis is they use alot of oil and crack heads at high temps... but that was a while ago that we had one in the family.

stay toward the toyota nissan area for second/third/tenth hand stuff, generally if they haven't been written off by the time they reach the fourth or fifth owner there not going to die anytime soon.

Yeah nuff said, I wasn't too keen on them anyway.

Working to a student budget unfortunately so if it sh*ts itself bigtime I don't have another car or cash to get it running again.

Looking at ones like this

Just a few examples. Like I say I'm not dripping with cash so thats why the little guys appeal. Some of the bigger 3l trucks are probably way too thirsty.

id say terrano or surf, terranos are pretty cheap on fuel, dunno much bowt toyota's.

ive had a terrano for the last 4 years and it never misses a beat. only real problem that i have had with it is when i put 33inch tyres on it and wound up the torsion bars.

but if you want something you can easily modify later on i would go after a surf.

although suzuki's are cheap to run and are pretty good. pretty decent offroad from what i have seen too.

well, thats my 2c anyway.
