started installing rear locker. found wheel bearings looking a little melted so got new ones. found the bearings to be ok tho one was just starting to go. looks like someone had changed bearings and sweated the collar on which cooked the plastic bearing cover. unfortunately they also left behind bits of old rusted bearings which is probably whats got into the bearing.

made a puller (kindly welded up by family member) and removed the bearings with the 20 ton press. drifted the new bearings and collars on. had to loctite one bearing in as the housing was a bit loose.

locker install was fairly straight forward. made an attachment so i could torque up the bearing adjusters. found they where fairly loose so cranked them over a couple of notches per side to about 125 lb.

Yaaa back from Woodhill patrol... Auto mods worked a treat....Even got out the pto winch for a self recovery....No new dents 8) And had a play in some of the 24 hour challenge tracks again....Even made some new tracks thru a few sections.....
Got held back after closing... one punter in an Isuzu wizard got bellied on a track... took us a while to find him... by that stage it was dark....
He and his kids were grateful... Takeaways on the way home.....
Now its wait for Lotto time.....

fitted the new hubs I got to the Suzuki, also did the cambelt, tensioner and waterpump. Painted the cambelt cover and made a few things shiny. Now just waiting on tracking down a bloody engine mount.

Also did this on the Fuego: ok, so I removed the ball bearing and spring from my boost tap thingy and hey presto, reliable boost now. Running about 11-13psi now, so up on the factory 9. Pulls quite a bit harder now. Happy as. can still safely go to 15 so might do that this month. Might try to get to a winter dragwars event this month, just for shits and giggles.

On sat arvo went up to the 4wd park with a good mate of mine, billfish.he has just fitted e lockers front and rear on his 200 or is it 300you no the new shape v8 deisel land cruiser.i no there the size of a small bus and twice as heavy .but what a weapon....... 8) ....the lockers did not make much diffrance in the sand unless you had some good ground speed.but on the clay wicked.nothing seems to beat traction and more torque the you need.we went up one of those three cross tracks, wet clay steep the we could of done the whole track easy .....if it did not have those gay plastic bumpers.so after a wee bit of pushing we backed back out will bumpers still in place.when those puppies get cheaper i got my hand up to cut some out of the chassis ,lift it up and what a factoryish weapon you would have :D

had to unload the half-finished housetruck box. i've turned down too many 4wd trips lately because my truck's been in the shed, need to get it sorted and back on the road to haul my Surf.

So had a late night, got a 3dr Escudo in the shed as an anchor, lifted the box up with the tractor and and dragged it back on the skids, tipped the deck then towed the box backwards with the scud and dropped it off the back of deck onto a stack of tyres. bit heavy, smoked all 4 on the concrete :D wire brush fixes that.

Image

had to be a bit gentle with it as it's still missing braces underneath. Eventual plan will see a cheap electric winch under the centre of the deck and an endless wire over pulleys at the front and back of the deck, with a fixed loop to hook to the body. So i can winch it on and off controlled.

pulled the flatdeck out of the shed to do a bit of shit on it :D

Image

Pulled half the shed apart and dug out some old PTOs and found a bunch of old toyo and nissan winches and an old 8274

Image

Image

had to have a play around mounting the pto lever and lift it up for the 50mm bodly lift and shift it back about 40mm coz some clown  cut the hole in the tunnel when the gearbox was hanging down without an engine hanging off the front and it ended up getting cut in the wrong place :x so I made a little bracket up to get the lever sitting in the hole properly :D had to extend the linkage rod about 30mm then gave it a try out and it all engages both directions ok. I stuck a forward/reverse PTO on and will see if I can run a toyo winch in reverse so I dont have to chop the ARB bar up to shift the rope slot up to the top (Cruiser winches spool off the top of the drum unlike most other winches that spool off the bottom  ) otherwise I'll stick one of the Nissan winches on it.

Dug out some 10" cragars I had beadlocked a couple of years ago and cleaned all the welds up ready for painting, my 8" beadlocks seem to be out on long term loan so I'll get the 10's painted up and stuck on the truck so Sig can get his 10" Alloys :D

well this morning I took the handbrake cables off and took the body mount nuts/bolts.

Then this arvo helped a mate swap a sj body from one chassis to another, should be at mudfest. then had a play on his very expensive racing simulator, was awesome. Seeing i got the next couple of weeks off i might help him out on the Suzuki some more too.

Sat back with a beer tonight and looked at my vehicles lined up in front of the shed. Where the **** did $45k go? roughly what i've spent since i got into 4wding in 2003.

I've ended up with a rough, mech sound Daihatsu 6tonne truck that needs a good $2000 poured into it to get a CoF, A 3dr Escudo that came with a dead engine, now my daily driver, owes me bugger all. A LJ71 with a 1-uz that hasn't run properly since i did the conversion :( been cooked & fixed once, still parked with overheating problems. Cost $13000 over years, and i've had all of 8 months use out of it. 6 years ago.

and the worst part? I've got a kzn130 surf, auto on new 33's, 2 inch body lift and 2 inch spring lift. tidy condition. And do you know what i do with this truck?

I drive the 1.7km between my house and my shed. on tarseal. that's all. no 4wding whatsoever

I spend all day doing it for work, (Spreader driver. Merc axor 1833 4wd. mostly hill country) so it's the last bloody thing i want to do in my time off. Kinda takes the novelty out of it. plus once you've slid off a greasy hill in a 15tonne truck a few times a Surf gets very easy to handle

Saturday, loaded up the trailer with broken and redundant Terrano parts (3 front diffs, rear diff housing, 2 power steering boxes, bumpers, radiators and 3 batteries.

Walked out with $130

Sunday, help design and test out a few new hazards for Mudfest 8)
Dig a small hole and watch it fill with water before your very eyes
Add 40 or so trucks and it will turn into a truck swallowing swamp
Watch out for the new/old hazard nick named "The Soup Bowl".
Spent most of Sunday night finding a good video editor for MOV movies that the new camera uses
Sorry for the banner in the middle, some sites want you to pay for cracks :?

Won a Banks intake kit for the Jeep on tardme - fitted in 5min - way better throttle response and seems much better on the motorway too.
Blasted up to Helensville to get some firewood from the backblocks of a farm up that way and ended up bouncing off a few trees and fenceposts getting in and out of a real narrow track- thank god for the sliders otherwise I'd be looking at some pretty serious dents today.
Finished off the stereo too this weekend - iphone plays through head unit from 20 feet clear as day. Id say Im definately a shiney truck owner... :? :?
How often do those using their trucks for a daily and weekend muckaround vehicle get wheel allignments???
