Terrano Tie Rod ends

Post by joshpom »

Hi i'm new into the scene, bought a 1991 terrano, has 31s on it, went for a play in the mud, mate go stuck, i towed him out and ended up snapping one tie rod end, and bending the other, paid a S*** load to get it fixed, 1 week later at woodhill both snapped again doing a hill climb, i have auto hubs and both times when it they have broke my truck was bouncing rapidly catching then loosing grip i think, what would be causing these to bend and snap? there are two bump stops i believe on the arms, the smaller one has been taken out by the previous own, could this have anything to do with it? i also think the auto hubs are slipping and then catching grip? but i dont know new into the scene! just a bit scared to go off roading without a spear set of tie rod ends!? any info would be great!

yeah mate the steering on those things is piss weak, start having a look through the sites nissan archives for info or wait for the terrano guys on here to wake up and tell you all their clever little steering arm braces and mods they do to make them a bit more reliable

Throw those auto hubs at a passing toyota and get some real one's on there. Even if they aren't the problem they will cause you grief sooner or later.
Mine has no upper bumpstops and hasn't ever broken tre's....

look up the 2wd navara steering mod.

ask kiwipete or wax they know how to do it. i would have to say its probably the cheapest mod to beef up the strength in these things.

and about the auto hubs, i ran my terrano on auto hubs for about a year with 33's on it. i had a problem with the front diff though, where any time i put it in 4wd it made the front all bind up.

also, check your idler arm to see if its bent, as that caused alot of problems for me. heres the calmini one that you can get to stop it from bending:
