not many people from canterbury commenting eh... maybe thats because we know this sort of stuff happens most weekends in local rivers? Yes they are a group of muppets and it wouldn't surprise me to see a death on a trip like that but on the upside at least they are in the river bed and not destroying the stock banks. These sorts of rivers flood all the time so i very much doubt that you would find much evidence of years of damage or anything.

Perhaps comments about what they are doing wrong would help 4wders with less experiance to understand what is acceptable and what is "muppet" behaviour.

IMHO crossing rivers with water over your bonnet is not out of the norm for canterbury 4wheeling.

they not on the streets doing burnouts or chopping springs, looks like its keeping entry level 4wdin alive, not everyone can afford the flash gear or a reg / warant truck. They tested their trucks to the limit and looked like they had fun doing it. They werent on the stop bank, no public around to moan.
I bet a good few days went into prepping and repairing their beasts...
Theirs alot of different 4wdin outhere and looks like they werent hurting anyone and having a blast by the look...

Didn't watch the whole vid, but did see the first few minutes. Apart from the deliberate drowning of trucks, the only differnace that these clowns have over a club run is the speed they were entering the waterways at and the overall disorganisation (having said that,I have been on club runs in years gone past with a similar amount of people and just as much mayhem).

Don't get me wrong here, I am not saying it was acceptable behaviour by any means, but apart from contamination in the water (which will happen irrespective of how fast you going), these clowns weren't doing all that much damage (except maybe to themselves). And as Dave quite rightly pointed out, these rivers flood frequently.

I personally don't see much wrong with it. To tell you the truth I have done it myself in the Canterbury rivers. In Canterbury there are very few options for an afternoon play without going into the rivers

The braids of the rivers are changing often by the current so no damage is being done.

There is probably less damage done there than stirring up mud that gets washed off and into the rivers.

Its the alcohol involved.
Its the perception they portray that this is what 4WDing is all about.

Their antics are dangerous and certainly should not reflect what 4WDings is about. Dangerous with people riding unrestrained in vehicles, hanging out windows and even riding on the roof. All fuelled by alcohol.
They are the same as the boy racers in their rice burners that car enthusuiasts used to complain about giving them a bad name. But hang on they are the same guys, now moving into four wheel drives giving 4WD's a bad rap.

Its not necessarily the deep water driving but the way they are going about it. Hitting water at speed looks good for videos & photos but its not best practise and some thing has to give eventually.

Its called drinking and driving.
The alcohol should be left until the end of the day when driving is done.
