hay guys been a long time .....
what do the early model cruiser/prado coil sprung types go like .knowing they are 2.4s and having had a few problems with my 2.4 surf .are they abit gutless? any other issues?

skip the 2.4 and get the 3ltr 1kz powered one it is heaps better
There are a few being used hard off road and an after market water temp is worth while as they don't like any over heating.

good little trucks mate, yep the 2.4s are gutless as
but that also means you dont break shit, other than the lack of power they go well offroad for a standard out of the box truck and are pretty reliable other than some engine options cooking heads

Mine has done a head or two before I got it, now has a 3L head and they are supposed to help in the head cracking dept. Once the 2L (2.4) dies I'll drop a 3L(2.8 ) or 5L(3.0) in it with the turbo from the 2.4 slapped on the side.

Mine is on 35 goes great offroad even good onroad but that could have something to do with the repower being a 3.8 commy motor mated to toyota auto so extra 100kw of power but good truck offroad even when had 2.4

85-89 has the 2lt and different type of leading arms
90-92 has the 2lte
93-95 has the 1kz
2.4's are gutless but you can bounce then off the limiter about 4800rpm
, real cheap to run as well, will sort of spin 33's

my mate has a lj78 2lte auto running 37s and as much as everyone bags them it goes fine is a lil slow but what diesel isn't? spins them in the mud fine too and goes up hills sweet, just the whole head cracking issue bout them but 1kz's crack heads like no tomorrow too..

For the money, id go with a 3b powered Cruiser or 1kzte if you find one cheap enough.Great truck with coils and nice riding. Like alot of people my 2lte cracked head,replaced with 1uz. much better now.

hard to go past a leaf sprung 13bt swb cruiser for that sort of coin also. People get all carried away about coil springs theses days.

have to agree with rangimotors. The plue side from the leafys are they tend to be oohhh some much more reliable

these two nailed great points.. coils are great but if you want simple reliabilty, leaves are great.. with a bit of help from fellow wheelers, ya can get them flexing pretty dayum well too, easily to better that in the pic.
2.4's off road go alright if you drive them accordingly. not a high performance rev/torque monster, so dont go monster tajima'in it.
in sayin that, i know a chap with a great cond 13bt 70 series cruiser, lookin to be rid of it. hes in chch too.. keen for a looky?
also consider smokeys 70.. seen that thing many times perform feckin well and its got the hell gangsta set up..

at the end of the day, its the same old story bud. ya get what ya pay for. a vehicle with a 2.4 will be cheaper original outlay to a 1kz'd number but the onroad power is absent. amongst other attributes..
what ever happened to your last plans/build?

too be completely honest nibz I ran out of money.........
now with a better paying job and automotive engineering cert behind me im keen to jump back in
