So I have been pondering the issue of how to get around lubrication for the good ole A/c pump hanging off the side of my diesel block.
The local auto sparky says they flow alot of volume quite fast but they'd need internal lubrication.
It's a known fact that they will sieze pretty smartly without any type of lube for its internals as the gas (that was in it, and not anymore thanks to a tree branch) also has a lubricator.
would it be possible to plumb the intake for the A/C via the pipe running between the oil air separator and the engine's cam cover to provide just enough misty oily/air to lube the pump.
To remedy the issue of oil residue building up in an accompanying air tank have the pressure relief valve plumbed back into the oil air separator.
yes yes, just go buy a proper air compressor they all say, but i'm a tinkerer and the idea of just having the pump already there at the push if a button sounds nice.
You guys reckon this would be feasible?

Using A/C compressor for air compressor
Waiter...there is a drought in my glass.

this has been discissed a little on here,

I am looking at doing the same, will run an oiler on the intake and a catch can on the outlet, just need a longer belt to run it all and I'll be aired up. Will run the air to an Aluminium BA Bottle in the back
cheers
Greg

Re: Using A/C compressor for air compressor
theres lots of ways you can oil the pump, although my york pump is supposed to have an internal sump it gets hot and loses pressure after pumping up 2-3 vehicles so I tapped a grease nipple into the inlet on the top of the pump and give it a squirt of grease every so often

I've done the same on my Safari air con pump, go to the endless air website, they've done it too. Been running 18 months, no problems.

Re: Using A/C compressor for air compressor
You can also goto like ripco or bnt or even supercheap and get a air tool oiler that goes on the intake and use that( it is what I have done and have not had any issue's at all) But i do have 2 spare pumps..
just in case If you want I can through up a pic..

Re: Using A/C compressor for air compressor
just read anarticle in a us jeep mag on this.they t the suction line into the crankcase vent that goes back into the intake.they also stripped the compressor and filled it with high temp grease and added a grease nipple to allow it to be greased up.i would recommend running a air dryer or small wet tank with a drain to prevent moisture/oil getting into what ever you are supplying air to.
