Manukau Winch Challenge 2012
Hi all,
The Manukau Winch Challenge this year will be on 29 & 30 September.
The Onewhero Rugby Club will again be the base and the main competition venue will be in a new area of the farm on Parsons Road which we have used for several years. We also hope to have another venue available for some stages.
Entry requirements and other details will be posted here and sent to past competitors when they are final (probably July).
At this stage it looks to be a traditional individual winch challenge competition held under the current 4X4 Challenges Rules. I expect we will cater for Club, Challenge and Modified classes.
South Island competitors would be fitted into the nearest equivalent North Island class as was the case in Wellington last November.
So, mark the dates in your calendars now. 29 & 30 September 2012.
Dave

Re: Manukau Winch Challenge 2012
Hi all,
The committee have confirmed the competition format.
The event will be a traditional winch challenge competition. It will not be a team event.
There will probably be four classes of competition: Standard, Club, Challenge and Modified. Supplementary rules may allow for Standard Class without roll cage and Club Class with four point roll cage. Standard Class would run on less demanding stages. Those logistics are still being assessed.
Event HQ will be same as last year at Onewhero Rugby Club.
There will be camping available, caravans for rental, bar facilities etc.
All will begin on Friday afternoon September 28 with vehicle checks from (was 3.00pm) now 5.00pm probably at VTNZ Pukekohe. Then up to 3 night stages at our traditional venue at Parsons Road.
Saturday 29 September will be a full day covering up to 13 stages running throughout the day hopefully at our new venue in northern Waikato (about 10k from Onewhero). Those stages will run continuously over Saturday and if necessary into the night.
The event will formally finish on Sunday morning after breakfast to allow those travelling longer distances to get home.
More to come soon.
Dave

Re: Manukau Winch Challenge 2012
All,
I am currently working through what the Manukau Club members want and it seems that Standard Class rules aren't quite going to cut it.
Therefore I have decided to make a new class for our event called Manukau Class. Manukau Class will not require a roll cage or seat belt harnesses but vehicles must have current rego and WOF. I am preparing supplementary rules for Standard Class to deal with it now. The Class will run on the same tracks as the main event but with bypasses and other alternatives.
Entry forms and all other documentation and information will be published on the Manukau site (www.manukau4wd.org.nz) when they are finished. Probably about Wednesday next week as I'm still working through those supplementary rule changes. I will post a link here and advise all previous entrants.

maybe...
If you already know everything, DON'T ask bloody questions!!
Re: Manukau Winch Challenge 2012
Were entering ,The only stumbling block is i intend rear mounting my radiator very soon and under present 4x4 challenges rules that eliminates us from challenge class
so if i get it done before the comp we will have to go into modified class .or i could get my co driver to drive and enter Manukau class

Nothing definite yet but it is still early days. When talking to others over the last few months I was assured there was interest for the class. However, past experience is that Challenge Class competitors are always fairly slow to commit.

Please bear in mind that Manukau Class is a class for entry level vehicles where minimal vehicle modification has occurred and that drivers must not have previously competed as drivers in 4x4 Challenges events.
I have already ruled twice on this issue. I have allowed a junior driver to drive dad's capable truck in Manukau Class (but not with dad as the co-driver) and I have allowed another driver to compete in the class as his vehicle does not reach the safety standards of the other classes.
So, have fun in Modified Class. Please don't hijack Manukau Class.

Re: Manukau Winch Challenge 2012
will look at entering Challenge class at this stage, still have suzuki in shed, so if worse can do club class.
might need a little TLC after roll at Wellington last year.
