2L 2.4 engine problem

gidday, i have just aquired a toyota hilux 89 with a 2l diesel 2.4 engine. all running well except for when the engine is warmed up the engine revs take forever to drop off. doesnt do it when cold. its not the cable getting caught on anything. any ideas?

does it smoke?take the throttlecable off and make sure the accelerator lever snaps back nicely tothe lowidle stop.

No smoke, engine starts and runs fine, no oil or water issue. Cable comes home fine, just takes a long time to drop engine revs. Cheers
