Hi guys,
My ln106 lux has a box out of a surf in it with push button 4wd. I'm not sure exactly which one it is and won't be able to check for a couple of weeks but the guy it got it off said it was out of a v6 and he fitted it as it had stronger internals than the standard box which had lost a gear.
My problem is that this box seems to be shorter than the original as he has a spacer on the rear drive shaft. I would like to swap it back to get rid of the spacer and would rather the standard transfer over the push button.
Which bit of the box I have is shorter? Could I just swap the transfers or should I swap the whole lot.
Are the bell housings the same?
If anyone can give a bit of a run down on what the different boxes are and their interchangeability that would be great.

LN106 original box is a G52, and transfer box is the std manual type with the transfer stick remotely mounted on the gearbox.
It's a real common setup, as for the bellhousing there's many that will bolt on to the G52 box....what engine is it on

I looked into this a while back as there are a few slightly different ratios. From what I remember
early ones : top shifter (in top of transfer) are the same as the manual shift forward shift (shift lever just forward of transfer)
Vacum shift (push button) are chain drive transfer rather than gear, housing is different and wont bolt to older box,
Then there is a later one that is different again and shares auto trans oil or some thing.
But basically I dont think you can swap the earlier manual shift transfer.

Toy - Zuk chassis tub, hilux 4.88 axles and transfer, Nissan CA18DE motor and auto trans, sc12 supercharger, 32 10'5 simex, twin motor 8274 custom freespool. Well the parts are all there in various corners of the shed

if the only problem is the spacer is it easier to just get a new drive shaft made up or sleave and extend yours and have it balanced?

R series won't fit, the G or a W will, best std option is to find a L series bell (diesel), anything will do, and a box, you can use a W series box (1986-1988 diesel 2 door surfs) as they have the trans shifter straight out of the t-case...nice G-box but some massaging to your trans tunnel Req.

Cheers Tim that should be enough to go off for now.
I suppose another option to get rid of the spacer could be to put up with the transfer I have an see if a 130 surf drive shaft would fit? Might have to do some measuring

W series and he's correct on model, to use that box you will need a bellhousing (he may have one, as that box would have been behind a 2LT)
the G52 with it's transfercase, and the w56 with it's transfercase, these 2 combinations are the same overall length, a L series bell will bolt to either.
you will have to chop around the floor a little if you use a w series as said, the trans case stick comes out of the top of T-case.

I am back looking at this now but because I purchased duals off Tim!
A guy stripping a heap of hiluxs on trademe said that the w, g and r series boxes have different sized input shafts (must mean diameter for the g and w if they are the same length) is this true?
Will I be able to use my current clutch plate when I swap to a w or g series box? (currently have a 5L motor with and R series box.)

differing input shafts isnt a huge issue, just different clutch plate and spigot bearing in the flywheel, i had a drive shaft spacer made up by taylor engineering in wanganui, cost me all of 30 bucks and a box of beer. much easier then changing transfer and gearboxes around

i would keep the box you have now the r series out of the 90 plus surfs with push botton 4wd is so much stronger the g and w arnt that good r series is cheaper to replace and easy to find
