How about an overland tag along extraordinaire??

Post by hone »

Fancy joining us on the jaunt of a lifetime?
We plan on shipping our vehicles to Singapore May 07 then driving up through SEA via Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Thailand, Laos .
Enter China June 07 and spend 6 weeks visiting some awesome areas primarily in Southwest before driving west to Lhasa, Tibet. From there we intend crossing the "roof of the World' as we drive due west to arrive in Kashgar in far west China.
We head south from there over the Kunjerab Pass leaving China and entering the legendary North West frontier area of Pakistan.
Security situation willing we drive through the Khyber Pass to Kabul. From there it is north to Uzbekistan.
Our route from there to Turkey depends on the situation in Iran/ Iraq.
We plan to take four months as much as we can exploring areas of interest away from the usual tourist areas.
We currently have 5 definites in 2 vehicles, with another 2 vehicles still deciding. in addition there is some interest from some motorcyclists who hope to tag along through China.
Why dont you join our trek to Europe? :D

What a fantastic trip indeed, if only I had the time and funds etc etc.

Hope you keep us well posted with pics as you go.
Ok people, move along. Nothing to see here. Thank you, move along.

Just talking to a girl from work about this (she into 4wding) Her Husband is a Sound/Camera/Lighting Operator. She asked why don't you have a doco made about it. She is talking to him as I type to find out where you would look.

TV3/Prime and or Sky is currently looking for Independent Doco's. Approach them, they will find the funding etc for you.

Jumping the gun a bit but the best crew he recommended would be:

Producer: Jim Marbrook
Soundie: Aaron Davis
Camera: Matt Hunt
Light/Grip: Phil Totara
Driver/ Security: Rod Topp

A Doco would mean sponsership as well 8)

Thanks, Bubba, for your positive suggestion. We had entertained the notion that it may have some appeal (and could help address the escalating costs), but consigned it to the too hard basket as we had no contacts.
I promise thanks to your post we will pursue the idea further!
Would you mind private messaging me with contact details for your friend's husband and Jim Marbrook?
Thanks again for reigniting our enthusiasm to explore such a possibility
Cheers

No problem

Been told that if you pitch you idea to the tv company, they will run around and get the funding (if they like the idea)

Will PM you with all the contact details

Don't forget, ORE reserves the rights online streaming and photo stories, maybe change that to, ORE would really like movies and photo's :P
