Live in the middle of Auckland at the moment. I might cruise up to hunting and fishing while they got their sales running

You can download em from LINZ I believe. Can just print of the area you require and at a better magnification then.

http://www.linz.govt.nz/topography/topo-maps/map-chooser

Also easy to make a map out of two edges (you know the place you always end up and have to change between paper maps)

This site has pretty good maps.

wams.org.nz is a great site for printing maps as it shows DOC borders and public access points.

If you want to buy maps cant go past Map World (http://mapworld.co.nz/)

I went to map world and brought fresh maps it was a bit pricey but WORTH every cent!!! You get the country topo map in multiple scales then in 3d too. Also how get land ownership boundaries. Payed around $150 for the whole south island about 2 years back.

If you have a smart phone you can get some pretty good topo map apps. I have one called MapApp NZ which is the full South Island 50 series topo map (you can also get the North Island one for the same price). Real good resolution and fully offline so you dont need cell phone coverage to use it. As an added bonus you can also use the gps to locate yourself. $20. Good buy. There is also another one called Memory maps which is the same but has the added function of plotting way points and it has an altimeter and speed, gps positioning and direction/distance recorder too. But you have to cache the area you plan to go to before leaving cell phone/ wifi coverage. $20USD. Still a good buy.
