As my previous post, after the Hopkins trip I am heading south to Ophir to pick up some cool engineering gear and handmade furniture that I have inherited. The first of a few trips, or a big truck loan is coming up. Anyone help here?

My mate Phil (shortly to introduce himself on ORE) will need a ride back to Shakeshake after the Hopkins.

Can anyone help with a ride for Phil please?

Cheers Johnno

Track has its usual washed out bits in some places.

Toilets havnt been emptied yet.

Wood is getting low.

Keep your fingers crossed that some snow will fall over the next fews weeks.....

Pictures to come later tonight.....

Hey Blair
I see you are saying a few wee wash outs and that the wood is low.

I am taking a trailer south straight after this trip, and as Jerry suggested, I am happy to bring firewood down for the huts. Especially if everyone chips in a few dollars, rather than paying outrageous amounts at a service station.

My trailer is pretty high with big wheels and I've got twin diff-locks. It is very used to going strange places on weird angles. Am I likely to get through these wash-outs towing some wood in?
Not so worried about the snow issue, that I can cope with

we can always tow you through John LOL

Jerry & Smurf
Cheers guys, so Phils got a ride home. Sweet!

Awesome thanks Blair.
OK that's the plan then. I am happy to take some wood into McCauley Hut.
Hopkins, going into that hut - will that be similar?

I can supply some good dry wood, so we should be able to have some roaring fires to drink that dreaded blue shit around...
Maybe even leave a supply of wood at each of the three huts. Would be good PR with DoC & the locals...

rather than tow your trailer up the valleys we may be able to spread the wood between the trucks going up?

As you guys will be staying at the Macaulay hut on both Friday and Saturday nights, no need to take any wood up the Godley.

IcedJohnno wrote:Hopkins, going into that hut - will that be similar?

I never been up the Hopkins, but Im told its similar to the Macaulay and Godley tracks. Just gets harder after the hut.
