1990 Safari - Wiring under passenger seat

Post by XJCrawler »

Hi guys,

just wondering if someone knows what the huge bunch of wiring under the front seat passenger seat is for (under a small plastic cover), theres an excessive amount for what they would be running? Could be a Nissan thing I don't know.

Anyway I got these wires wet and now one or more amongst the mix is shorting and casuing my batteries to die over night.

Mine had an extra 12V converter under there for the head unit/cb, I dont recall there being any further wires there tho. I do know the plastic cover you mean but I dont remember there being anything significant under it. Prehaps seat heaters or seat belt sensor? Sorry cant be of more help

Thats the bugger. I think thats all the tail light loom, probably rear defog and wiper etc too. Forgot that one runs in and out of the cab.

Rear lights, fuel tank sensors, rear wiper if fitted, rear demister, pretty much everything behind the rear seats I think.

thanks for all the help guys. I took the not so labour intensive approach and decided to leave a dehumidifier in the truck for a few days to dry it out, and job done, no shortage any more.

I noticed I may have a few extra wiring in that same spot as I've got an auto trans. I have a bunch running to the gearbox and a bunch running to the back of the truck. (disadvantage of an autobox I guess).

Speaking of disadvantages of a safari auto, does anyone know if you can get extension wiring harness for the auto ecu? Would like to get that up away from the floor before that causes me grief.
