grease for a runva winch

Have been having free spool issues with my winch lately.
When its in free it was bloody hard to pull the rope off. As in wrap around hands couple of time and pull like a barstard.
Stripped the gearbox down and discovered the outer ring was binding up on the grease. it was really sticky kinda like a glue. So cleaned the grease out completely put it all back together and its all good.

Soooo my question is what kinda grease or oil should i be putting in? And how much?

I have used wheel bearing grease the water resistant stuff...
Cant remember the brand.
And only coat the gears, don't pack them as the grease hydraulics in the gears and jams it all up....
Hence the hard fee spooling... Learnt that the hard way...

true too much grease that could be my problem. Its so much fun learning the hard way lol cheers for that

yeh ta for that. mines been like that from the start so must have been over pack from the factory

Warn recommend lightly smearing everything in silicone grease as it can cope with water and high temp.
