12v compressor review

After deliberating whether to do an aircon conversion in my Vitara, I decided to give one of the 12v electric compressors a go first:

F2 Twin Piston Compressor 12 Volt and Tyre Deflator Combo

Got a deal from 4wdbits.co.nz with a set of tyre deflators.

I was half-prepared to be disappointed with the compressor as I didn't think it could compare to my 240v workshop compressor (and of course it can't), but it is pretty good at doing what it's made for.

I've got a Vitara on 30" Sumitomo tyres which I let down to 15psi (with the deflators, which took about 5-10 mins to set up initially). Re-inflating with the compressor took about 3 mins + a few secs per tyre. Hardly enough time to drink a coffee.

With all the hassle of trying to source bits for an aircon conversion, then actually doing it, I'm pretty pleased with this unit. Still would prefer onboard air but it's a good compromise for now.

well you could solid mount it in you truck with a tank and pressure switch

They say not to do fix it up to a tank. But honestly by the time you've sat around having a cuppa and talking shit for 10 mins which you're going to do anyway after a trip, it doesn't make any difference.

Only reason I would really like to run a proper tank is so I can use my airtools, which this would no way drive.

If you are looking for a tank Chris I have a couple of Aluminium ex Fire Brigade Breathing Apparatus bottles, that can be easily modified to take air hoses etc, these are still good for about 3000 psi I'm told but have been decommissioned you'd probably only need to get to around 200 psi anyway

no advantage running a tank. also with most of the cheap compressors i would not run 60psi or so. 100psi would probably kill it. no way its going to get to 200psi.

be interesting to see how long it lasts.

Cheers. Sorry i missed your post. Yeah tanks wouldjd be good but got couple more priority jobs first. You don't reckon i could use one as a welding bottle?

not likely mate , has been decommissioned from high pressure use , you'd be lucky to find someone to fill it I reckon

How's your compressor going? Think of buying one for myself....the price looks right, hows the quality?
