Pyro gauge Temp
Pyro gauge Temp
Hi all i have a 1kz witha manual pump and have just put a pyro gauge on it as im planing on towing with it, a bit of info on the motor was origionally out of a 1990 prado kzj78 rolled. I have put it in our lowered surf i did the timing belt waterpump big exaust and manual pump when installed then it cracked a head so replaced it with genuine new seals ect and a 300x600 front mount intercooler. my question is what is a safe operating temp ie temp it could sit at for an hour or 3 and a safe max temp? the temp sender is located between the manifold and the turbo as this must be the hottest point. any help would be much appreciated.
Re: Pyro gauge Temp
I have set my alarm max at 700C Never stay in it for more than a few seconds..Usually hits during hard hard acceleration up a hill. Pushing at 20 psi...plus.. so usually don't go there...
At 100 clicks its doing around 450 to 500 C depending on head winds and incline of the road...
However I am a bigish truck running 35 inch wheels..
Whats temps are you getting...

Re: Pyro gauge Temp
My max is set at 600 and the most i have had it at is 6200 and looked at the speedo and was doing 160kph oops at 100kph it sits around 250-300 but towing my hilux yesterday it sat at around 450-550 at 100kph
Re: Pyro gauge Temp
oh yea mine does 20psi aswel
Re: Pyro gauge Temp
Sounds ok to me..... wish mine would run that cold at 100 clicks....
Ahhh oh well that's what happens when you try and push a 2.5 ton brick thru air....

Re: Pyro gauge Temp
mine with an upgraded turbo sits at 400 to 450 at 100kmh running 16 pound. the pump does need to be tweaked though as a lot of the heat i see builds very quickly off to low boost and the egts really drop off at the higher boost pressures.

Re: Pyro gauge Temp
what did you get done to your turbo, who did it,how much $$$, & how has does it go differently after mod?

Re: Pyro gauge Temp
std turbo just a manual pump and free boosting
Re: Pyro gauge Temp
i upgraded to a td05h turbo that has a small 16g compressor wheel. I did it myself with some help from tu's who made the dump pipe as i had surgery and shouldn't have been rebuilding an engine and putting it back in haha. The money is that big thing. i purchased a new one through turbocare and it was roughly 1400 i think. i don't remember haha. i don't really want to remember. if you can get a second hand one rebuilt it and chuck it in. It goes much much better. the injector pump needs to be turned up
on boost and i reckon a wee bit off boost as it spools up slowly and the 1kz like to build heat fast. i would recommend it but its not cheap. Let us know if you want any more info. you need to either make a new exhaust manifold or a sandwich plate.

Re: Pyro gauge Temp
My 1HDT with VF36 turbo from a STI WRX sits around 550-600F (290-315c) at 100kph, highest its ever been pre water injection days was 1100F (593c)
i'm only pulling 3-4psi at 100kph, std turbo is pulling 7-8.
with big bore, FMIC, water & alcohol injection running 13 psi it hardly ever goes past 900f (480c) even towing boat/race car up long hills

Are you running an after market temp gauge or modified toyota temperature gauge. you egts may be good but water may be too hot.
noticed with my standard boost 1kzt (without intercooler & butterfly removed) that if towing I let the egt stay over 600c for too long the water temp starts climbing in a hurry. also as it is auto anything but a light load I have to turn the overdrive off to keep the temperatures down
