Beware Offroader Snorkels

I am aware that there has been some talk on here already about these. Unfortunitly I didn't reliase that until it was too late.
I have purchased one of their snorkels for my Y60/GQ Safari and was a bit concerned when the (to use there words) "Universsal Instructions" were specific to a Prado and quired this with them and also asked for some assurance that the Temp plate would be accurate which they assured me it was. I have now discovered after very carefully lining up the template and drilling 5x 8mm holes and one 84mm hole that it isn't bloody accrate at all in fact it is 20mm to bloody short
I have made it work by cutting slots taking to the inner guard with a angle grinder and the 84mm hole with a die grinder and modifing the pillar mount/braketwhich has acheived a fit some where between where it should be and where the temp plate put it.
I have emailed them a very straight forward email asking that they make right and have also lodged an enquiry with the comerce commission

Hmm I fitted a snorkel to my truck last week and while i will admit i did not get the Snorkel from Offroader it is from the same supplyer and made in the same factory it has the same hardware and comes with the same instructions. So my guess is that its the same. I took one look at the template and could clearly see that the main hole was nowhere near where it should be so i moved it to suit. That is of course not saying that i did not cock it up with some\all of the other holes which was the fault of measuring device and lack of.

Shit that would really rip your undies mate, like they say always measure 3 times and cut once and never trust a template untill you've checked it'll work

Pajero one fitted fine, the instructions were Prado 120 series but the template taped to the inside of the box was right or close enough, even the template was exactely the same as the safari one I fitted a few years ago. I was pretty happy with mine delivered to the door for $200. It was a little bit higher above the roof though and snorkels higher than the roof line are a liability so cut the top off it.

I represent Offroader LTD.

In Offroader LTD defense, we have emailed this customer about the problem and taking steps towards rectifying the problem with our supplier. Last year we had the Nissan GQ snorkel fitted by our mechanic with no problems on his own personal truck, Hence why this has been brought to our attention now, we are contacting the supplier and asking them if the templates have changed etc.

As for the wording of "universal instructions" we have always had the intentions to use these as a "guide reference" only. Unfortunately this has been our problem on our part and we are changing the wording on all the auctions to be correct.

In regards to instructions, yes we would like to be able to supply instructions to suit each type of vehicle we sell the snorkels to but we are not in a position to financial demo fit every kit and provide instructions at this stage, however this would be the ideal future for us.

Hence we are selling the kits at $179.99 for the product only at a low price which come with a guide reference document.

Safari snorkels themselves sell these for approx the $500 with instructions.

Again we has apologized for the problems this customer occurred and have taken the correct steps to correcting the problem.

i wouldnt hesitate to buy another snorkel from Offroader
mine fits my bighorn perfectly (and i didnt even have to modify the template too much)

The one I bought for a mate's patrol needed a slight adjustment, but otherwise a good product at a sharp price.
It does seem strange that you'd mark it out and drill it without checking it against the snorkel to check its correct.. or is that just me?

Mine fits beaut - common sense says the template looked a little too 'universal' to me so we just used it as a guide - I let my panelbeater fit it in the end, hate hole-sawing virgin 80 series guards lol

I fitted one to my GQ swb safari. Template was way out, so everything was fitted up by eye. Still, a quality product and I am not complaning.

Have just fitted one to my truck. Was purchased without template at reduced price as it was misplaced. Ended up with some extra parts having to be sent but it was all done quickly and easily with me keeping any spares. Am very happy with the product and the service. I think for the price people need to be aware that fitting template and instructions are a guide. If your going to moan about template pay $700 and get one fitted, if not buy an offroader one, a box of beer and take your time.

I have also fitted plenty of there snorkels and use the template as a guide only, no problems to fit with a little knowledge, I even bought some GQ snorkels from a cancelled shipment and have fitted 4 already with no problems, exactly the same as what offroader sell, only cheaper to ORE members

Good on you for being straight up tga 4x4. The reason I started this thread was that once I had received the snorkel from Offroader I asked them to confirm if the template was accurate and was assured it was when it wasn't and wanted others to be aware.
They were good to deal with at the start over this but then went quite.
I still stand by starting this post.
