Surf ball joint spacers/torsion bar advice please

Post by KotangKort »

Hi guys/gals

So my surf has a 2" bodylift and 2" lift spring installed (shocks to suit also), problem is the front end is a little lower than the back (not even 1" but enough to annoy me) due to the torsion bars only being wound up to be almost level. Now i could just wind them up more but i've read/heard this can give little to no travel in front shocks and c.v's will be in for a lashing.

Question is will 1 of these ball joint spacer kits sort this problem???
http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-par ... 403192.htm

I figure if that kit lifts the front 1" then it would level the truck out and i wouldn't have to wind the bars up to do it thus keeping the travel in the shocks, less strain on c.v's and brake lines etc.

Am i on to something here or nah?

cheers :)

Does your truck sit level with 4 people and a full tank of gas????

other wise it is going to sit one inch lower at the back when it has got 4 people in it and a tank of gas, plus strop, toolbox spade etc etc.....

And then you have to consider correcting your headlight beams too.
Waiter...there is a drought in my glass.

Hmmmm iv'e had it with all my gear (strops, shovel etc) and a full load of blokes and from the driver seat it still seemed like front was dipping down but i didn't get out and have a look. i'll test that out tho.

Adjusting headlights shouldn't be a biggy.

In theory tho the kit should work the way i hope?

a 1" ball joint lift will give ~2" front lift and then fine tune it by adjusting the torsions. advantage is it makes fairly soft compared to just cranking the torsion up.

shocks, brake lines etc no problem is you already have shocks etc suited for 2" lift. the diff lowering blocks (and sway bar blocks) are not 100% necessary with only a 2" lift. however they are handy at keeping CV angles at stock angle.

I would def use the diff lowering blocks even if just using bj spacers to level out the front as when at full droop the spacers allow the lower arms to go down further creating cv binding problems unless you space the top bumpstops

with 2" lift its not a big deal. however 4" and up cv angle is a problem.

btw that kit is fairly good and 1" spacers don't need to mod the arms at all, tho its a real tight fit for the bolts.

Shot tweake so the kits gona work the way i plan then.

mk1tna:so the diff lowering blocks will eliminate the c.v binding prob or just help with it?

yes kit will work and diff/swaybar packers will help with CV angles, not that you will have a problem with CV angles. CV angle won't change from what you have now.

btw the diff drop kit doesn't drop the diff straight down, it tilts the rear of the diff down.

Hey Mate, did you end up getting one of these? I saw those on TM too and was thinking about getting a set. My surf has a 2" lift on it and I just got some bigger tyres and they tend to rub a bit when the suspension compresses and thought I might be able to use this to wind it up further.

If you've fitted them how do you find it? any problems with getting a WOF?

Cheers
