Hi mate.. Mines cut off at the rear hangers, its fine. Theres nothing behind them anyway apart from a fairly weak bit of C section chassis rail that supports the ass end of the deck (sometimes, not all aftermarket decks sit on it anyway) and the rear bumper/towbar. It makes the truck look slightly out of proportion from the side if its a double cab, but it gives you a heap better clearance and saves your deck getting munted up if you do any serious offroading with it

This is how mine looks:

I know its a YN67, but you get the idea :)

Yeah i had a look under and looks like i will be able to cut it right back, then cut the actual deck and re weld it back up.. it would have to be certed and all that jazz but one step at a time haha.

I was told it didnt need certing, and have never been questioned on it. If you take the deck off you'll see its only the 2 outside bits of the rails that stick back with seemingly no purpose anyway. Dont need to cut any crossmembers out or anything. As far as the deck goes, I think as long as the mounts are secure it doesnt really matter. Might pay to ask a certifier and see what they reckon anyway of course. But yup all in good time :P Like my list of things to do a piles of parts to fit/cut/make haha

I was thinking of cutting it right back to the hangers this way it's a nice and short ass and just making a new crossmember to have the rear tow hooks on will I need to get an engineers report?? For this because it will be modifying the chassis.. Where the hell would you get a engineers report from? Haha,
More progress pulled the ac out because it didn't work explaining itself when removed being so blocked

Mine has a crossmember there already, the one the spare tyre hangs off of, dont know how strong it would be for hooks tho, I opted to mount my hooks on top of the deck frame since the deck is built like a tank anyway. Prehaps fab a reinforced bar into your deck if possible save the hassle as soon as you go near the chassis with a welder. Do you have a flatdeck or are you cutting down a wellside? Have seen it done somewhere with a wellside looked a mission but can be done.

I've pulled the deck off and the spare tire out of the way do I could see where and how much to cut off it appears that I can cut right back to there and then just put like you said another reinforcing bar in to hang the tow hooks off that would be strong enough surely.. I was planning on cutting the well side down and after talking to a guy at work the easier option is off the cab siade rather than the tail gate side planning on doing about 300 mm off..
Have started the bar for the front finally and sorted a stainless snorkel should be good haha

So your going to shorten the wheelbase by 300mm?

Won't cutting the cab end off the wellside mean you will need to relocate the deck/chassis mounts?

Also as Lolyf points out the wheel arches won't align with the wheels anymore

This is 320mm if I remember correctly. I cut them this way to retain the angle of the lower rear quarter :D

Decided to make a bulletproof flat deck much like the one you are making for that red hilux tomsoffroad, building a dog/recovery kit box for the back of it as well, now to sell the wee 31s and get some new shoes for the old duck.. how much body lift will be needed to run 33s or 35s? any help would be ideal 8)

My 33s rubbed a bit with a 2" spring lift. If you re-drill the axle mounting plate to move the axle forward on the springs and trim/hammer the rear of the guard and fire wall you should get 35s on with bugger all lift. If you move the axle forward in theory you need to shorten the drag link, but from memory mine still got full lock both ways without any drag link mods (35mm forward). You will need to shorten the control arm that goes to the diff head. Also you will get slightly less flex. But if you have drill/welder/grinder this is a fairly simple mod that will gain you crucial space for bigger tyres with out lifting sky high.

Oh, all of this assumes it's solid axle?
