Nissan Terrano D21 lift kit and tyres

Hi all, a workmate suggested I join this site to get some advice/info on my truck.
I have a Nissan Terrano 1992 D21 with which I want to build a part time mud bug :) I've already welded my primary wastegate closed, plugged my secondary, tampered with the fuel pump and removed exhaust regulation rubbish.

Now I'm looking at a 50mm suspension lift kit, though not sure what size and offset rims are realistic?
Also what size tyres are realistic without a body lift to avoid rubbing?

Has anyone done a similar thing or seen it done?

i put 33's on mine with 50mm body and 50mm suspension, rims 15x8 -19 white spoke, not much rubbbing but did have to trim the guards a little bit to fit flares.

personally i would suggest doing steering mods before you put bigger tyres on it though. like idler arm brace, etc.

also, seemed a bit of a waste going 33's, if i were to get another terrano i would go max 32's, as theres plenty of clearance under the front anyway.

I use 15x8 at 0 offset. 33's clear most parts but also have a 50mm body lift. Here's what zeros look like.

Hi

So 50mm suspension lift is the max with the torsion front end, unless you want your truck to look like a hotrod. I have seen some new arms from calmini, but it just starts getting stupidly expensive.

What I've done....
- 50mm lifted heavy duty springs for the rear from Cobra in Christchurch
- Torsion bars wound up to suit, not to close to the bump stops though, about 15mm away seems good.
- Calmini brace for idler arm, made up by DEATH_INC (thanks mate) even better than the original and much cheaper.
- 50mm Body lift blocks made up by TAZ at Wellington Towbars. Good solid things and a fraction of the cost. (Plus some other mods, but read my other posts)
- 15inch rims (-12.5 offset) with Maxxis Bighorn MT762 32 x 11.5 x 15. When you jump to 33’s the price jumps quite a bit too. These 32’s sit in perfectly, but you need to take off all the standard guard plastic crap and put some rubber flares on that mount to the outside of the guard and not inner edge. (Flares from Rubber Bits in Petone)
- New extended shocks. You will need these if you want to take advantage of the extra travel you have just added.

Do the steering mods just give you more clearance around the front wheels for turning?

Thanks heaps guys, looks like 32's might be the go due to cost (though I do have a good mate at Nationwide accessories who hooks me up :D ), and some cheapo flares so I can still pass a wof.
A mate said the black garden edging stuff from a gaarden shop does the trick also so I might give that a try.

Nope the terranos are known for bending idlers arms,loltre's and everything else inbetween lol. Idler arm brace is a must if going to larger tyres and the 2wd steering mod is quite popular as well. I think sibainmud?? Is using a dummy steering box instead of an idler ar arm to increase the stength of the setup as well

That would be me with the dummy steering box. Its a very easy thing to do and well worth the hassle

looks like the other guys got in there first lol,

but yea everything wears down extremely quick if even one thing is bent.

i went through nolathane bushes within a month of putting them in it due to the idler arm and a tie rod being slightly bent. didnt look bent till i pulled it out though.

and id say the 2wd mod looks the best out the lot, just seems to suit it better. and easy to do.

The 2wd drive conversion is awesome as well. Its so easy to do it may as well be a bolt on kit

Don't waste your money on Nolathane idler bushes (this applies to surfs too). Back when I was at Autolign we stopped fitting them in our shop, they are way too soft for idler bushes, and often had more movement than the worn one's they replaced. Get the trusty old plastic one's instead.

i just used early 90's surf steal rims and 32" simexs went straight on
did only rub a lil at full lock
