Led /hid light comparisons? expierences?

Post by pruggerdore »

Ok so hid has been around for a while and are grunty lights but what is better value for money hid or led. led new technology seems awesome but to get to the big output is lots of leds which get real expensive. take up lots of space.
Just wondering what people have tried/use and there thoughts and what you would do if doing it again.
offroad use.
Do led really get the distance of Hid. Or only if you spend 2 grand on them?
setting up lights on hilux for costa and want to put the money in the right direction thanks

I think you probably summed it up at the start Clive, HIDs are long distance and LEDs are medium range wide spread unless you've got $moonbeams$ in your wallet to spend on high output LED light bars.

To date I've only run HIDs in some 11 inch hella 4000's, there phenomenal light output but definately a narrow beam so you dont get the wide spread and peripheral light and view you'd get from LEDS but the're still reasonably drivable and effective in the bush, doing teams events you find if all your trucks have got their lights blazing you also get the sweeping effect from the other trucks lights covering the peripherals.. just remember to turn you rear vision mirror down if it hasnt already been broken off

As far as bang for buck goes untill LED lightbars come down in price, I reckon you couldnt go past a mixture of a couple of HIDs and a couple of LEDs giving a bit of peripheral spread :D

Just make sure you throw a couple of spare main fuses in and keep a torch handy if Malcolm decides to flick on all his big lights at Costa Image
