for chinese stuff runva seem to have a reasonable reputation and good support, the feedback from everyone seems pretty good, never had one myself but I did try one of their synthetic ropes and maybe it was a batch problem or something but I've had stronger shoelaces :?

ok is there a web site i can check out to veiw specs on them?
what sort of things should i look for in terms of motor kw or hp? also the speed and the type of gearbox they have (in general across the board)?
all of the entry winches come with wire rope so i was also planing on changing to dyneema rope like this http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-accessories/other-accessories/auction-499564516.htm

I would second the Runva Winches. I dont have one yet, but will be getting one soon, and have purchased other products from the guy and can reccomend him.

the're typically all simular motor spec's, the higher rated winches are lower geared so pull a bigger load but pull at a slower speed than a lower rated winch would. 8000-9500 lbs is a pretty standard size for your truck

if you need to do a really hard pull you used a snatch block to halve the load

have the a 12000lb runva and althougth its slow man it has some grunt. Very well made and comes with absolutly everything you need.
you'd be better off gettin the winch with the synthetic rope. Works out way cheaper than buying it latter on.

Make sure you've got a big arse battery and work on getting some bigger power cables later. makes the winches work oh so much better

check the line speed figures, I recall one from winch.co.nz that was still 8-9k lb but had a much faster line speed for very little price difference to the majority.

Yep I have that one. 9500Q competition winch. has an 8 hp motor motor and higher gearing so pulls faster. The importer/seller stands behind his products with good warranty. hard to beat bang for buck

x2 on this one, mine has done 2 teams winch comps pulling Safaris and Cruisers as well as my Hilux all around the toughest tracks in Rallywoods. I can't fault it.

Although I can't say the same about my first Runva which burnt out the wiring on the brushes in the motor. That was the 9000lb model with the slide clutch.
