Just bear in mind that the pitman faces backward.
If you face it faceing foward the steering is reversed.

because it faces backwards it gives you more clearance for larger tyres on left lock

Ive got a 60s Left hand drive steering box if any one wants it.
Was fitted to the inside of the chassis, right hand side, on my Oldblue 40s. Time to clean out the shed.
Could do with a seal kit

Out of a 40 you say? I'd be keen - how much work is it to replace the seals - needs to be simple for me to do it

You need to turn up a couple of O Ring compresser's to srink the nylon O Rings . I think you also freeze them, so that the rings dont get nicked while being assembled...Ask somebody who works in that line of work.
This box was mounted on the inside of the right side chassis , just below the radiator.and in frot of the battery.

power steering into a fj40 out of a 60 series

Post by nzdncjw »

hey again - I got hold of the guy he has the pump, hoses and steering colum with power steering unit attached. What will be involved in doing this mod? especially for someone like me with limited experience in doing this stuff but with plenty of time and I know a few good mechanics etc.

I have been told it is the best and easiest one to do....

thanks for ya help....

You need to make up a 16mm plate , with 4 taped holes that match the steering box. This is positioned about 30mm out from the inside of the right side chassis. This plate needs to be fitted and gusseted real well as there is big forces on it when turning. The position up and down is also important as the pitman arm needs to clear the diff, and the under side of the chassis. To find the true position is quite important.
