I used commercial pool vacuum hose for the Lada. Nice and flexy and lets the 1.6 breathe easy.

What truck do you have?

I used 3" stainless with silicon connectors, and then a 3" truck exhaust patch to wrap and bolt to mount, Has been working mint and takes the hits well.

homemade snorkles often end up looking just that.... homemade  :o

pvc wastepipe is the poormans homemade snorkle, its not very durable if your smacking banks and bouncing off trees and usually dosent look very flash, welded and powdercoated 3 or 4 inch tube comes up pretty good and even better if you know someone that can find you some stainless pipe :D some people like Rokhound and kbjj have build clever snorkles that are ducted up inside their guards and pop out at the bottom of the windscreen to keep them tucked in and away from getting crushed and damaged as well as better asthetics Image or if you dont mind the noise you can duct the intake straight through the firewall and draw air from inside the cab

I made mine so that it runs through the inner guard and is welded to the outer to make it look seamless and integrated. made out of 4" pipe

Jeez Tu's, wonder who the genius was who inspired that idea

The mutt was done like this this:

and semi finished looks like this:

And I sorted the Playdoh one about 3 years ago to look like this:

I didn't weld them into the guard as if you smack a guard up you have to biff the snorkel or at least rework the whole thing again. :P

I am contemplating the same thing at the moment, its only a bit of a hack (painted with blackboard paint  ) so doesnt need to be anything flash. Some good ideas here..I see plenty of people better at fabricating than me :P I can weld ok, but cut and bend and end up with something that fits where I intended it too..not usually

Haha I wouldn't flatter yourself, been planning on doing it that way since I bought my 80 3 years ago and I figured out how much room was under the guard 8)

We were in no way instigators of the idea of fitting the tube behind the guard. I had been toying with this idea for over 12yrs now. The first time I saw it done was on Dave (can't remember his last name) from Falsgrave Auto Spares' lexus powered Vitara. He did it the same as you welding it to the guard, or he may have gone through the scuttle. In the guard looks a shite load better than an ugly bit of pipe hanging on the outside no matter how you do it.

This maybe considered a grade 1 tread jack....
But is there anyone in the CHCH area willing to help me out with a stainless snorkel for a bit of cash/beer.
I have a KZJ78 prado and am struggling to find a suitable snorkel for it (dont want an airflow one) and actually think a well made steel one looks pretty mean.

Any help much appreciated

Don't put the snorkel into the glove box .

We had a V8 cruiser on a "Coast to Coast" years ago who turned up at the camp running VERY RICH. After investigating why it was flooding we found the air intake was in the glove box. The co-driver had taken his beret off and put it in the glove box. You can guess it. We found it behind the butterfly in the carb.

Cheers Richard

Now I've seen it all :P hahaha. Carby filter housing on the end of a pipe, hard ~100deg angle in the exhaust..brilliant
I think I'll pass on that idea tho
