Toyota 1KZ-TE are all blocks the same Prado, Surf, Granvia?

Post by COILY »

Just wondering if all the Toyota 1KZ-TE are all blocks the same. Does everything from a Prado, Surf or Granvia bolt to one or the other? Are the heads the same? What has the short valves and what has the long valves.
Your help would be much appreciated.

Have a look at toyodiy.com
Dial in the vehicle you want to use as a base number..
Find the blocks P/N and then put it into their p/n search.....
I used my KZJ78 1994 and got this result...
The vans didn't come up...

Any differences might only be minor....

Thanks, that gives the same block number for the Prado and the Regius which is similar.

There was a 1KZ-TE shortblock from a 90 series on Trade-Me which was brought to fit a 70 series but the dip stick was on the oppersite side.

It would appear they are just behind the air cond compressor on the 90 series...
Would be interesting to see if there is a bung in the block at each location...
depending on which vehicle its used in...
Toyodiy.com shows a plug in the block on the 90 series block at the location where the dip stick would go for the others....
But the other block doesn't show a plug where the 90 series dip stick might go....
So that tends to suggest early blocks only have one hole on the injector pump side and the later blocks have two possible holes...

It looks like this one is exactly as you described:

Wonder if the surf ones are like this?

Calvin could you do me a favour please and measure the distance from the front of your front bumper to the middle of your front hub? Just need to make sure the prado i have bought will fit on my truck.

there is a few different blocks. I think its 4wd hilux and 2wd hilux, or it could be 4wd hilux vs 2wd hiace motors aren't interchangeable, something to do with the oil pick up provisions in the block or the oil pump mountings or something.

Thanks guys. Think it might pay to rebuild the engine i have rather than risk getting the wrong one to start with.
