Terrano brakes

Post by Generickiwi »

Right, well after putting it off for a while, I finally replaced the rear pads and shoes on the terrano.

It all went pretty straightforward, but now I seem to have pissed off the gremlins... when I hit the brake pedal, my handbrake light flicks on, and the pedal gets a bit spongy.

I don't want to think that the booster has shit itself, that means money and the war minister will not love me...

I just don't see what could have caused this spontaneous issue, all I did was pads and brakes didn't remove any lines, so no air introduced into the system, though I have bled the system just to be sure.

Any thoughts, oh great spannering warriors of the keyboard?

Plenty, and to be safe I have some spare fluid on my hands, pants and socks... don't ask about the socks...

What about when the pedal is pushed? the light indicates low fluid level and spongy pedal is air getting in, so I would be looking at the master cyl area first.

mine does this alittle bit, not the brake indicator though.

We reackon its the seals in the master cylinder thats making it spongy.

Well I bit the bullet, swallowed some pride and went to a brake place, he's confident its not the master cylinder or booster, he reckons its a lack of vacuum... so the great hunt for a vacuum leak begins.

Shit I hate cars sometimes...

Hell, I told her the day we got married, as soon as she hits 36, I'm trading her for 2 x 18 year olds...

But thinking about it, I'm a bit older, and the way 18 year olds are now, I dunno that I'd be any better off... I guess sometimes the older model is a safer option!

Anyway, brake guy seems to think that it may even settle down once the brakes have bedded in... I guess I'll just avoid going down any long steep hills for a bit...
