80 series CDL questions
80 series CDL questions
Been cleaning out my shed and found some free wheeling hubs and though about putting them on my 80........
Just wondering if you can do any damage to the CDL if its on all day every day??

Re: 80 series CDL questions
Nope it will be fine.
If you're interested, I can do a 2wd conversion in the transfer case for you. All I need is the centre diff, and will convert it and send it back to you.
Then it is 2wd constantly until you push the CDL button in which case it engages the front d-shaft

I would be keen too for that price. Might have to investigate freight prices from Tauranga to Chch. Anyone know the weight of the center diff?
Men do not quit playing because they get old.

Re: 80 series CDL questions
Yea, but I can make my own for a lot cheaper then that

Re: 80 series CDL questions
Hey guys,
The price is $300 if you're interested in getting it done.
Once you remove the back case of the transfer you will be faced with this

And if you send me this part Ill modify it and send it back to you (the back sidegear, spiders, the back half of the centre diff housing and centre pin)

not quite that simple
Re: 80 series CDL questions
Sounds good. I'm swapping my transfer case out next weekend so will pull the CDL out then. PM your address and account details and I'll send it down.

Re: 80 series CDL questions
how did this go , can anyone tell me what do 80s tow like when only 2wd ,
Re: 80 series CDL questions
It went good. Sent the parts to Tu's and got them back and installed without too many problems. Goes sweet with 4wd at the push of a button.
Way better than having to put the front drive shaft in each time which is what I was doing. That wears thin fast.
I do a lot of km's so it suits to run it in 2wd most of the time. Better fuel economy and less stress on front components.
I don't really tow anything too heavy so can't really comment on that but everything I've towed so far - quads, a good size role of cable on a tandem trailer, has been no probs. You don't even know somethings on the back.
