depends what it is.

between safari and terrano i know of these ones:

Safari:
4.625 (safari spirit 2.8 turbo diesel, rare)
4.11 (standard)
3.9 (petrol ones)

Terrano/mistral
4.88 (some diesels)
4.625 (standard diesel as far as i know)
4.375 (unsure what these are in, think later terranos and v6)

i think there were some 5.?? in some of the 4wd vans too.

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =501986386

Will pick it up tomorrow and hope like hell its the same.

I emailed the guy before hand and he said it was out of a 1992 D21 auto turbo diesel.

4.625 is most common in those years. You will have to pull the diff head out and look for the stamping on the crown gear to make sure. Good thing is they only take half an hour to do, if you know what you are doing. Only need to slide the half shafts out a little way to release the head

Cheers,
I keep looking for the loose nut behind the wheel, but I can't find it!!

You sure can, new shims from nissan are around 120 for a kit from nissan. Also read somewhere you can change the shims around to make it tighter too.

When I bought my LSD (4.6), I just swapped the crown gear off my old diff(4.8) into the LSD diff to keep the ratio's the same. It's the spline count for the axle shafts that matters.
Ok people, move along. Nothing to see here. Thank you, move along.

afaik you should use both your crown wheel and pinion as they are a matched set

if you put in extra plates you can get it really tight, but if your after a locker weld your diff, cheaper, easier.

the problem with using extra plates is they will wear over time.

Me?

I have brought a complete disk to disk axle that has a LSD diff in it

The R200 LSD diff is left over from when I was going to put it into my legacy.

I am wanting to tighten up the LSD to the point that its nearly a locked diff.

Go into Cockram Nissan and get a couple of .7mm shims about $10 each put them in, won't take much to tighten it right up, you will have to set the back lash when you put it back in. Shims out of a safari LSD might fit they have the same size crown wheel and pinions.

Wicked, Now to run the breathers up under the bonnet away from the water.

What oil should I use in the LSD? I was going to use Red line shock proof....

The clutch plates and shims inside LSD Safari, Terrano and Navara diffs are all interchangeable. Can add shims or extra clutch plates to make tighter I have an extra clutch plate each side and my truck almost behaves like it has a locked rear diff. However as others have pointed out the tighter you make it the faster it will wear.
