Safari PTO Winch cable. Size? Length?

Post by PTO4WD »

OK, have read through all the posts but can't find the info.

What diameter winch rope should i get for my safari?

Does anyone have a figure on how many metres i can fit of that diameter on my safari pto?

Going to get steel and tube to make it for me, very cheap. Read H2OLOVA's post on cheap recovery gear, so i wont say much more.

i wouldnt go over 30m of 8mm steel rope or it may go over the edge of the drum and cause a nasty mess.

ive seen a drum be snapped off a winch when the rope goes over the edge and no ones watching.

you can carry a spare roll of winch rope and join them up make sure it has a loop to connect the hook to.

I run around 20-25m of cable from memory, for the exact reason mudchuka mentioed.

I also carry, 5,10,and 20m winch extension straps for longer pulls.

should just need a small lug on the cable, and screw it to the drum itself.

Probably the best way to go.
My 2" was in for 3mths, then went 3", soon to be 4" unless I find a GU in Japan in the next few weeks.
